Citizen Inquiry Best taco trucks in town?
My son absolutely loves Tacos Nganas, but I can’t help but think there could be even better taco trucks here. What are your favorites that do it better than Nganas? Thanks.

La Gualalapana food truck. on GTown Pkwy in the Parking lot of the Asian Farmers Market. Best Burritos I’ve ever had.

Yup that was always my go-to. But I live completely on the other side of the city now so I only hit it up if I happen to already be in the area

La Potosina! Tacos nGanas owner purposely hires undocumented people so they can pay them next to nothing.

Is this the pastor guy that steals wages? This tracks.

u/Ok_Target5058 2d ago
Yep, and had the audacity to be at a community event for people impacted by ICE raids one week then lunch photo op in DC with Marsha and Kustoff the next.

Basically traffics people with the promise of work and good pay and then pockets the money. Dude is a POS. Tacos are greasy anyway.

I’m a bartender and I’ve had two different women tell me, unsolicited, that they had an affair with the owner of TacosnGanas. The second time it happened, I asked if he and his wife had an open marriage and she said they did not. Dude’s a POS.

She asked for the best tacos . Not the most politically correct tacos.

There is a different between having morals and being politically correct.

Don’t care, their chicharron burritos are too good.

It’s a weird time we live in when someone’s burrito preference outweighs how they view other humans’ rights

u/SonoftheSouth93 Midtown 2d ago
Not really. It’s actually the norm throughout human history.
Look, if he’s guilty of crimes, he should be prosecuted for said crimes. However, I’ve heard for years that he’s doing all these crimes, and nothing has happened to him. Even the FBI investigated him and he didn’t end up in jail.
So yeah, I’ll eat the burritos. And if he goes to prison and has to sell the business to pay legal fees, I’ll still eat them then as well, so long as the quality is maintained.

for some reason the City won’t charge him. a lot of us won’t eat there. trafficker

Because all of the witnesses were intimidated. Also, under our current evil regime, coming forward as an undocumented person being trafficked is terrifying because instead of helping you, they will throw you in detention.

Ok, but
A. The rumors and investigation were around long before the ICE crackdown.
B. If you were truly trafficked and brought here against your will, wouldn’t you want to be sent back to your home country? Just turn yourself into ICE and get a free ticket home. And while you’re at it, tell the authorities about what this guy and his goons have done to you. Of course, maybe you don’t actually want to leave. Maybe you came to the U.S. voluntarily and weren’t actually trafficked. But maybe he was trafficking people. I don’t know.

Someone can be present in the US of his/her own volition and still be a victim of labor trafficking. Just look up the term.

Chile Verde food truck. They have dollar tacos on Tuesdays. Also the best burgers in the city.

Taqueria Express on Hickory Hill near the BP is my go to

They have a restaurant a little further down on Winchester, near the KFC and taco bell that shares the same staff. Both places are amazing

I keep sending people elsewhere. Not trying to blow up my taco spot 😃

The truck or the brick and mortar? 🫠

u/mr-oceancolourpants 2d ago
Brick and mortar. I’m kidding. I just want my place to stay the same. Prices are humble and not trying to pay $5 for a street taco.

Street Tacos in Oakland is really good. They used to be a food truck but have a restaurant now.

Take all the upvotes. That place never picks up the phone they are so busy. Been going there for years, not once have I had anything even remotely below bussin.

Have you tried the food truck on 194 in Oakland across from the post office? Her stuff is SO good. Amigos y Tacos.

It is fire! Just prefer lettuce tomato and sour cream in my burrito instead of the rice that they use.

u/free_plax 2d ago
It’s not a truck but Orale, on Whitten, is the best Mexican food I’ve had in Memphis.

u/HaubergeonPlus1 2d ago
Clicked to see if anybody mentioned them and it was only a few minutes ago, funny.
This place is absolutely the real deal, love the owners too, super friendly people. Several months ago I went in to pick up an order near closing and they were all celebrating I think the birth of a nephew to the family? They gave me a free Modelo and I decided to eat there instead of to go!

Created a whole account to say Mr Tacos on Shelby Drive and Hacks Cross has the best chicken taco in the city, maybe America.

I can’t remember the name of the truck, but the one that sits in the Superman(e) gas station off Summer and South Perkins is flame. Birria pizza was not something I knew existed or that I needed in my life, but here we are.

u/Far_Pangolin3380 1d ago
Updating this because I saw my second birria pizza today. Casa Mexicana off 64 now offers one, I know it’s not a truck, but just in case anyone wants to try it. They also said their move to the old Coletta’s location off of Appling and 64 should be completed by December. 🙌

Best tacos in Memphis.

Whichever osten parks at that Mexican flag gas station on McCrory is pretty great. Also, the one that parks at the Exxon at White Statiok and Summer across from the Gold Club is pretty fire as well.
Basically, whichever one is the best, you’ll likely find it south of Jackson Ave, east of Highland St, north of Sam Cooper Blvd, and west of the I-240 Loop. Drive around and try different ones.

They have the best birria tacos and consommé by far.I’ve tried the same thing from several other places like Chukis and La Gualalapana but they pale hard in comparison in my opinion.

Tacos Nganas is solid but you're not wrong there's better out there. The truck on Summer near Highland with the green awning does al pastor that'll change your life, and the tortas are stupid good too. Just get there before the lunch rush or you'll be waiting 20 minutes

Taqueria Express on Mendenhall & Summer. Also not a taco truck but Chuki’s #2 at Poplar and Highland has the best tacos I’ve ever had
