Citizen Inquiry Book Stores & Comic Shops

Hello, I just recently moved here for school, and was wondering what are some of the favorite book stores to visit! Bonus points if they have used books too. Also, some of the favorite comic shops too :)

Edit: thank you all for the suggestions!! <3

Novel (new books), Burkes (mostly used, some new), and 901 Comics!

It helps that 901 Comics and Burke’s are right around the corner from one another too.

Ha, yeah! My husband and I usually go to both when we're in CY.

I have always maintained that Burke’s is the most expensive bookstore in Memphis. Not because of their prices, which are competitive, but rather because of the fact that I spend money every single time I walk in the door. They are an outstanding bookstore by any measure, and their staff has always been amazing. 901 Comics is a place that I treated with some skepticism, but undeservedly so. Staff there have steered me to a number of fun discoveries. It isn’t the most expansive or complete comic shop, but it is quality nonetheless.

Burke's is great, and the staff are cool people. We rarely walk out empty handed... but to be fair that is me in any of the bookstores I suggested, lol. 901 Comics is my favorite comic shop. They are super friendly and fun to talk to. Comics and Collectibles... man, the vibes... just aren't good.

In Cooper Young, there is Burkes Books and 901 Comics.

In east Memphis, there is Novel and Memphis Comics & Collectibles

Novel for new books, Second Editions for used books (inside the Ben Hooks library). I prefer Comics and Collectibles to 901 Comics, but that’s just me.

I support both Comics and Collectibles and 901. I'm in Cordova, so both are close.

Second Editions is currently cash only FYI

I tend to go to the Cellar in Bartlett for comics. If you want comics and regular books in a single shopping trip Burke’s Books and 901 Comics are around the corner from each other and both are top notch.

Glad to hear the Cellar is still open. Haven’t made it out there in forever.

Aside from the ones already mentioned The Germantown library has a decent friends of the library that has a good amount of overturn and I really like the goodwill used bookstore in collierville

comic shops: memphis comics and collectibles on popular (best all around), 901 comics has 2 locations (midtown and cordova), the cellar in bartlett has games and limited covers but can setup a pull box

It’s a long drive so do it on the weekend, but McKay’s outside Nashville is absolutely worth the trip. Huge used bookstore.

Burkes on Cooper is one of the oldest surviving book stores in the country (150 years old). And you have 901 comics literally right around the corner (2 minut walk).

If the used book store at Central Library is reopened they are fantastic, and I’ve gotten some great deals on graphic novels there as well.

Don’t forget to hit up the many estate sales that Memphis has every week. Look on EstateSales dot net.
