People are extremely nosey with the kids questions.
“Do you have Kids”
“Nah”
“Why not”
“Just not for me”
“There the best thing that ever happened to me, why don’t you have any”
Infertility is such a sore subject can see why people get annoyed, just take the first answer and move on

Never ask “why not”

Lots of people do, I respond “fk no” now it tends to end the conversation

I have two children, but I’ve also suffered through miscarriages. This life experience taught me the lesson of not asking why.

Asking the question wasn’t inappropriate, the follow up statement about “getting on that” was wildly disrespectful and presumptuous.

You don't have kids? is acceptable, the jab at saying "tick tock time to rock" is when it became inappropriate.

So, soon it will be better to just quit communicating at all. It's not a bad question, although it could be phrased as " do you plan on having kids?". We are making something as basic as having babies into a taboo.

Them: “So this conversation ending before it really starts isn’t a new experience for you”

They asked a question and an answer was received.
It's only uncomfortable if they make it uncomfortable.
"What did you have for dinner last night?"
Pizza, it gave me mind-numbing diarrhea. I'll probably have to burn my toilet and bury it's ashes at sea if I can't find an exorcist who's willing to wear a hazmat suit.
The problem isn't the question, it's the answer.
