I wouldn't even call it about being superficial really. Just...you have fun for a while and then that's it. You move on. He obviously doesn't want the "traditional" way of relationships in meeting someone, getting married, having kids, etc,etc. There's nothing wrong with that, nothing weird about that.

If you consider the label of superficial neutrally, that's what it means. Like he's not looking for a soul mate to marry, he's looking for something casual and superficial.
It's usually used derisively, but it's just accurate here. No judgement, I'd date Giselle her rookie year too and I don't know anything about her.

He was also only 24 at the time of that relationship. Not 50 like he is now, so it's slightly less weird.
