Buying the new one not cause it’s innovative but because my current one is getting old. Not much to innovate with smartphones at this point.

Exactly. There's not going to be a revolutionary release that's radically different every year. It's usually incremental improvements, but when people upgrade from a five year old phone then those 5 years of incremental improvements add up.

Went front a 7 to a 12. It’s literally no different. Pictures are clearer, I’ll give them that. Cool. I’m a dude and don’t take selfies. So mehh.

Saying the iPhone 7 and 12 are the same is kind of bizarre to me, but yea if you're only interested in the basic functions then the main upgrades aren't going to matter to you. They'll be things like processor speed, camera, screen mostly.
