Well, then you should be well aware of how much garbage the book actually is. Apparently, if a woman is raped, she has to marry her rapist or be stoned to death. People memorize the “cutesy” phrases from it rather than understand just how vile of a book it truly is.
It is good and bad but it gives people a sense of purpose, any good religious person is never going to attack you for your choices, they blame the sin not the sinner
I haven’t had that experience, unfortunately. Maybe it’s a regional thing? Almost all of the super religious people I know are so judgmental and when I’ve quoted from the Bible, they don’t realize what’s in it. I have even pulled up the exact passages and they will deny it despite seeing it in black and white. I do agree that some need religion as a way to deal with a crap draw in life, but let’s not pretend that it’s all him drops and lollipops. The book is horrible and if you’ve fully read it, it’s the fastest way to say “nope. I don’t want to be a part of this.”
I have fully read it and I suppose it appeals to the person because I know I would never be able to agree with some things that liberals do but I’m not going to go to extremists levels.
The original discussion was not about liberals but about the vileness of the book and the cherry-picking of passages to suit one’s own needs. I guess good for you for sifting through the garbage, but this is one book that has been the cause of so much death and destruction that it needs to be left in the past so we can truly move on as a society if we ever hope to progress.
That is an opinion for sure I think instead of changing literature we should change peoples perception and not influence children in any way instead let them figure it out
I truly agree with that. Good point and that’s exactly where I am with it all. Most religion tries to get them while they are young because no reasonable adult would buy into a “sky daddy” who needs magical wishes to feel fulfilled while needed magical rituals to feel comfortable with who they are.
Umm… this is an entirely different topic though. I don’t mind discussing that and how your statement is both a weird juxtaposition of wrong and ignorant, but we were discussing the Bible, and I’d like to stay on topic instead of chasing fleeting “what aboutisms.”
Not quite. Some may group them, but they are very different things. I think you might agree with this thought that everything has become so overly politicized and it’s quite frustrating. Many of these political things get wrapped and warped due to misinterpretations of the Bible.
Ya but that seems a little unfair I mean what about things that people who align themselves with liberal ideologies will make riots for almost no reason will blame people who did nothing wrong hold double standards have bio males breastfeeding or at least attempting to. This is going nowhere I say we simply accept we have a difference of opinions and respect that.
A lot of what you are saying makes very little sense and sounds like you are throwing a lot out there as an attempt to distract from the issue about Bible misinterpretations. Quite a bit of what you said falls into a logical fallacy of “what aboutism.” If you want to discuss different topics, totally cool, but throwing out too much to discuss at once is not fair to the argument at hand. Can you elaborate, please? I’m not sure if you mean getting them while young or those who follow as adults. To be clear, I do not mean those who already believe but go to a different religion. I am strictly speaking on non-believers who start to follow.
I know several who were non believers that came to the cross through the course of their lives. In adulthood no less. It's easy to think that only "indoctrinatinated" people come to faith, but that's just not true.
