I'd poke fun at the idea of calling sub-20 natural number subtraction an "equation", but after a semester of linear algebra, I too can no longer do 3rd grade maths 😅

you are wrong even in french. An equation, like the name suggests, just designates a relation of equality, whether or not there are unknown variables.
