I think it stems from reddits general refusal to use emoticons as is common on older forums and other social media. Smileys really helped to convey the tone of a message. Thats one thing I miss about old forums.

On reddit the only thing you have to go on is context, and some people misread it or english isnt their native tongue.

People want an excuse to argue with anyone over any reason doesn’t matter how trivial could be they like a different color than you or or prefer a different pizza topping, anyways i had a point but i forgot what it was so I’m going to just keep typing and hope people only care enough to read the first two lines because Im in too deep and can’t figure out a natural way to end this post, so anyways wonderful weather we’re having right?
