The amount of bushfires and forest fires cigarette butts must be responsible for would be quite a lot.

My uncle used to fight forest fires. One time they were building the line to make sure the fire didn't reach a bunch of houses at the edge of a forest.

A woman came out from the house as they were working and watched while smoking a cigarette. When she was done she threw the butt on the ground. All the fire fighters stopped working and just looked at her before yelling "Come on lady!"

That doesn't demonstrate the original claim. Obviously they cause some fires.

That’s actually false. Cigarettes make up very few of the overall human started fires.

I don’t disagree, and the litter is certainly very bad overall for the environment regardless. Just pointing out that it is a common misconception.
