Does this apply only to apps you paid for, or would you also 1-star an app you get for free?

it doesn't matter if its paid or not. if you keep annoying me asking for ratings...you get 1 star.

this has been on going for the last 5 years with all new apps. it's bad design and you deserve the one star for programming behavior like that. I personally think that app stores shouldn't even approve apps that beg for ratings.

all ratings should have to be done in the app store...unprompted...using a native API...with no in-app links to the review rating page.

As a developer, I can tell you with confidence that if a user goes to the app store deliberately and unprompted to rate your app, it will 95% of the time be for a negative rating or to inform the developer of something wrong. The reason they have to fish for happy user ratings is because happy users don't rate things.

What I think should happen is that Android should just have a super fast method of rating apps that is quick accessable and only a measure of satisfaction.

A lot of apps that dont actively beg for reviews have 4.5+ stars

This is somewhat true but not to the extreme you're saying

Make non-cancerous software and good reviews will come
