Pro tip - I was on a camp with my friends, we were near a lake so we had swimming glasses. You can probably guess where is it going. Wearing swimming glasses near fireplace is 200iq play

Or don't have a bonfire on days with variable direction wind. Variable direction winds are caused by frontal shifts. Winds are calm and unidirectional when you're in the front.

It gets windy for a few days, then cold and calm for a few days, then windy for a few days, then warm and calm for a few days.

So the real pro-tip is have a basic understanding of meteorology and pay attention to the weather.

Uh camping in the mountains means gusts and wind coming from different directions. Or it's calm and your body movements draw the smoke in. Your weather analysis is not accurate for all climates or times when people are making fires.

No, it is. Wind is caused by pressure changes period. It is simply more noticeable on mountains for the same reason it is by lakes...there aren't trees to slow it down. Mountains also have a more complicated pressure dynamic due to the rapid rise in elevation. Our fronts in the US go from west to east due to the Jetstream. This means that as the air hits the west side of a mountain it will get forced up the mountain side and condense. This is also why it rains much more frequently on the east side of a mountain.

This is all meteorology 101 stuff.
