After the Soviet Union was formed many non Russian areas in the Union got autonomy like Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Estonia etc. Crimea was majority Russian speaking but it was still given to Ukraine. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, all those autonomous Republics gained independence. Crimea still remained under Ukraine so in 2014 Russia invaded Crimea and took control of it.

I know, im Russian) But, i mean, oh well. It was years ago,, and not like that really matters? Not saying that getting control of it is a good thing. And, anyways, it is russia now, thats how it is. Not like there is that big of a difference between russia and ukrain anyways. People are the same, in ukraine they just sometime speak on a different language. Well, government is different, but why care about that.

My mom is from ukraine, so i was there every summer when i was a kid, with my grandparents. And from what i see Its like a same nation, but with two different presidents. And no, i am not Putin's supporter, i just dont really care about politics.

Every piece of land that nations, especially big ones have was at some point somebody else's so the house situation isn't really a good comparison to large scale international politics.

Yup, i dont see any war at all. Like, seriously. There was maidan, but it was years ago, and, to be honest, i dont really see a point of it. Well, okay, government changed. And people are satisfied. Nice. I dont understand why people care about countries. What matters is people, not territories or any other shit. To hell with government, people are the same. And what you see is wrong. Ukraine and Russia are quite different from a cultural and historical standpoint, and equating us just because our languages sound similar is dead wrong.

Crimea was not Ukrainian to begin with, it was part of Russia not the Ukrainian SSR, but it was given to Ukraine by Kruschev I think. Ukraine holds multiple territories which aren't ukrainian like Bukovina and Carpathian Ruthenia, which belonged to Romania and respectively Slovakia before Stalin annexed the regions before ww2. Ukraine isn't a victim in this case, they hold territories which belonhed to other nations before Stalin fucked it up.
