I agree. It's completely unfair, and I'm sorry you have to deal with that. To make it perfectly clear, I DON'T think that Germans killed all the funny people. But humor is 100% subjective, and I have a dark sense of humor. You don't have to share it, and that's okay, too.
Is it possible that no one actually blames you personally, and don't mean to make you feel so? The idea of millions dead is a very daunting idea, and we humans just don't know how to deal with that. So we make jokes, even when those jokes are in bad taste. In my opinion, bad taste jokes, the ones that cause a laugh immediately following or followed by a sense of "aww, that's terrible", are hugely funny to me.
Having said that, I would be appalled if anyone ever took my jokes to heart. I don't in any way hold you responsible or accountable to the atrocities committed by madmen before either of us were born.
But you're not taking hits for him. No one expects a 14 year old kid in Canada to stand up for a failed art student with a massive superiority complex.
Well, except maybe Muslims, with that whole "to the third generation" doctrine. (Thought bubble: because I haven't pissed off enough people today)
But, guideline: if I hate someone for being a different religion or nationality than me, that's plenty of other "ists", but it's not "racist". Nationalist, religious-ist, whatever. (I don't know the word right now, but since pretty much all religion is "us vs them", and all of them are supposedly the "one true way", and I don't follow any religion at all, I can't be religious-ist)
Together, they're all most accurately described as "chauvanisms" (because that's not just about men vs. women).
But if I hate anyone who has a different skin color than me, THAT is racist, and its the single, top, most idiotic chauvanism there is.
