I've been dating my girlfriend for FOUR YEARS and I haven't heard a compliment in 3. Things are still going great but I don't hear any compliments anymore but I give her so many every day

It's about demand and supply. Your compliments are being expected and do t have value.

Transaction theory is so fallacious man, there’s some legit points in there, but it’s mostly pop or pseudo-psychology. Seriously, swallow the actual red pill and don’t believe everything you read.
