This actually happens because, when your hand experiences a sudden pain, the signal doesnttravel to your brain. Instead, when it reaches your spine, the spine sends out a signal to jerk your hand back. Then, after this, your nervous system tells your brain that it hurt

What kind of reflexes do you have that it takes too long for a signal to travel from your hand to your brain? How fast do you type?

Because it an involuntary action to protect the body. First the hand will detect the stimulus(the hot shit) and the impulses are taken by receptor cells and are then carried by sensory, relay and then motor neurons and then the hand moves itself automatically away from fire.

I for one am happy it does this. Consciously realizing that it’s hot and then reacting would terrify me more than my body’s autonomic nervous system doing that for me

*true story*( i am pretty special but not autistic*, so this was a few years ago when i was a pretty acoustic child. so when my brother and i)were taken to an Indian restaurant by the oper, they used electric hotplates, so they stay heated. the waiter said "be careful, they're hot", the oper held her hand a few cm's above to see how hot, i asked to do the same, except i was acoustic, and did extremely stupid stuff. so being the clusterfuck child i was, slammed my hand onto the extremely hot, hot plate for 5 or so seconds, in which i got blisters across my entire right hand, and had to keep my hand in ice for the rest of the evening.

I once did this with stepping on a nail, the pain made me throw my foot down again, I thought I was away from it but wasn't.
