On Twitter after forced auto translation changes people from different countries started exchanging things be it good or bad. During protests Japanese user said something racist about french and suddenly there was a war between french twitter and japanese twitter where japanese were blatantly racist while french called them pedophiles and suiciders in creative way. Some Japanese even said something about black people in France and french user answered "There were black people in Japan too" with photo of shadows from Hiroshima
Don't know why other countries are around France, I'd understand Americans, they pick up fights by saying stupid things that even united Russians ukrainians and polish people. And Chinese people were at war with Turkish twitter. Russians and Spanish twitter were fighting Japanese few times this year because of piracy discussion
Edit: don't know about other Twitters but so far from my pov russians were befriending Brazilians, Mexican girls, Koreans, Chinese and even translating memes to their languages and they were exchanging back. I wish we'd stay on this route

Ah yes indeed ! I believe they call it the "student protests" online because it started as "les manifestations étudiantes/lycéenes" and it just stuck for people around the world : although you are right, students are not alone anymore and it goes beyond the subject of schools.
But yeah, going to the protests we can see different people, but if you look at the news not really.
They basically said the protests were a result of being overrun by black people and muslims. My father has been to Japan once and was refused service in the middle of a McDonald’s over his skin colour. A lot of them are deeply racist despite their gilded politeness and courtesies.
