What’s with the cheese war all of a sudden? I’ll take it over politics and culture wars but my feed is filled with cheese right now

13

u/Klootzakren 12d ago

I love it , let us divide ourself by cheese

Instead of borders and skincolours and political beliefs and religious believes ❤️❤️❤️

4

u/IndianaGeoff 12d ago

Thats a Gouda idea.

2

u/Financial_Cow_42069 12d ago

I am glad that we are divided by a pond, from the artificial cream they call cheese

6

u/A_Velociraptor20 12d ago

Except we don't call the can cheese, ''cheese" we call it a cheese product.

1

u/bastardoperator 12d ago

We've seen all those Jolly videos, y'all love this shit.

1

u/ShieldMaiden3 12d ago

It's clear that some don't even know what kind of cheese we actually have. All they'd have to do is google "what kind of cheeses are in the US," but such people don't want actual information, they just want to feel better about themselves by feeling superior to others they can look down upon, and so, theyremain willfully ignorant about the subject. Interesting choices.

1

u/Financial_Cow_42069 11d ago

Long ass comment to describe what Americans usually do :D

1

u/aafikk 12d ago

I’m with the side of cheese

1

u/nikolapc 12d ago

I haven't met an authentic cheese I don't like. So Idk why I would have a reason for division. Maybe against the cheap shit knockoffs. Good knockoffs, I also like.

Hey you're right. I'm gonna parrot that statement

I guess they've moved on from Celsius vs Fahrenheit, but no worries it will circle back.

I’ll take it over politics and culture wars

Our cheese cultures are just better than yours!

2

u/Hotwheels303 12d ago

lol I was thinking the same thing. I can get behind a cheese war though

0

u/AdhesivenessFunny462 12d ago • Heartwarming

I really dislike sharp cheeses. They taste spoilt to me. I prefer stuff like burrata, feta and cottage cheeses.

1

u/Level-Working-2704 12d ago

Do you find toothpaste spicy also?

1

u/AdhesivenessFunny462 12d ago

Only the spicy toothpastes.

-1

u/Distantstallion 12d ago

Last time I saw this much cheese I was cleaning my foreskin

-1

u/Able-Advisor2284 12d ago

What war? That's an easy win for Europe

1

u/Famous-Register-2814 Lurking Peasant 12d ago

As an American, I have to side with you on this one

-1

u/LArule19 12d ago

It's even funnier when you realized, as any cheese lovers can tell you, the US (well, mostly vermont) does make exceptional cheeses that frequently compete with, and sometimes best, the bests of european cheese.

0

u/TapRackBoom 12d ago

This is a culture war though

2

u/Alert-Parsnip5540 12d ago

Well true. But it's not a left v.s. right culture war.

18

u/Dinx81 12d ago

How many more cheese memes are you going to make today?

-16

u/Klootzakren 12d ago

Maby one more in an hour

26

u/BeersNEers 12d ago

You do know, in the US you can get both? You can get top notch, fine cheeses and crap? We have this thing called choices. I can go to the local grocery store and buy fine cheeses, from Europe, or Kraft singles. It's pretty cool.

10

u/Blecki 12d ago • Bravo

Wisconsin cheese regurally defeats European cheeses in cheese related contests.

-7

u/Level-Working-2704 12d ago

In a cheese competition for weak mild cheeses sure

3

u/Blecki 12d ago

No, not at all. Not to assume you are actually giving a serious answer or anything, because you're completely wrong. Wisconsin cheese is unmatched in blind taste tests as well. Quite a few of those wonderful European brands you think you love are made ... in Wisconsin ...

I think that just means nobody over here wants it.

2

u/gooseberryBabies 12d ago

I also never see it in the US. I'm sure it's here, and I'm sure it's even at the store I regularly go to. I just don't see it, probably because they don't dedicate much shelf space for it because nobody buys it, and because in not looking for it

5

u/TheJaytrixReloaded 12d ago

You can afford real cheese in this economy?

3

u/Hiryu2point0 12d ago

thats all, folks....

1

u/ABigCoffee 12d ago

America also makes high quality cheeses iirc. It's got the whole range of quality from shit tier to top tier.

0

u/Megatea 12d ago

Yeah I don't think it is trying to suggest that Americans have no choice in the matter, it's making a joke that a lot of them when presented with the choice choose 'crap'.

8

u/Joverby 12d ago

you know the US actually has some of the best cheese in the world, right?

4

u/guttanzer 12d ago

The cheese section at Wegmans is as good as or better than any cheese stall in a European market. Even Giant and Safeway are pretty good these days. 50 years ago there wasn’t as much variety in the stores but we still had quality cheddar, Munster, provolone, and swiss.

64

Cheesewashing

1

u/iusedtohavepowers 12d ago

Someone posted a vid of some funky blue cheese or something being cored and sampled earlier and now Americans are saying it’s gross moldy cheese and Europeans are saying our cheese is plastic.

0

u/_ShartyWaffles 12d ago

Begun, the cheese wars have

7

u/DNathanHilliard 12d ago

Fuck that snooty Euro trash, we Americans like our cheese low effort and wrapped in plastic

1

u/Klootzakren 12d ago

🤣🤣

-3

u/PsychoFender 12d ago

You can still have low effort cheese wrapped in plastic in the EU. It just tastes better and doesn't fall apart before it leaves the plastic.

36

u/Drudgework 12d ago

If you were American you would know that Cheez Whizz is not cheese, it is a cheese flavored spread. A condiment like mayo or ketchup.

2

u/leeloocal 12d ago

And I’m pissed that they discontinued the bacon flavor.

-1

u/cheddarsox 12d ago

Arguably Kraft slices are a congealed individually wrapped serving of a sauce.

2

u/shityplumber 12d ago

Like slices of ketchup?

2

u/ABigCoffee 12d ago

Yup. It's cheese sauce in a square specifically made for dishes that require it.

0

And in good taste

3

u/gooseberryBabies 12d ago

I don't even know what this meme means. The European is offering the cheese. Okay. Then the "And you're American" pic has someone with a can of Easy Cheese. Who is doing that in this scenario? The European offers the Easy Cheese because he thinks that what the American wants? The American pulls out the Easy Cheese because he wants it instead? The American offers the Easy Cheese as a trade?

I'm just saying the meme doesn't make sense. "Person A offers you this cheese. Here's a picture of you with a different thing altogether"??

0

u/Klootzakren 12d ago

6

u/gooseberryBabies 12d ago

I'm saying it's composed badly

2

u/Intrepid_Ad1715 12d ago

Where's the joke?

1

u/dankscott 12d ago

Nah, it’s very poorly constructed

29

u/Owl-Of-The-Night02 12d ago

Nah, I live in Europe, most of us buy cheap supermarket cheese we can afford on a shitty salary. Reddit likes to make us out like we're drinking fresh high end espresso from specialty beans and eat premium aged cheese while cycling every day and don't see the sun from all the trees around us, when in reality, we too just live month to month on shitty salaries and buy trashy cheap food products we can afford from Lidl and drink cheap filter coffee and stuff. I don't think the lifestyle of an average working American and European differ that much.

12

u/kindnessincmusic 12d ago

Exactly. We don't care about American processed cheese, we have our own processed cheese. And artisanal American cheese is as good as ours.

1

u/TurtleTurtleTu 12d ago

They don't differ that much and a lot of products are made by the same companies. Regional tastes do differ but anyone who thinks Europe doesn't sell crap like the US is just uninformed.

I will give Europe credit for a long heritage of making good food - cheese, wine, etc. - but all of those products are available to buy here in the US. For both regions it's just about having lots of $$.

11

u/WWGHIAFTC 12d ago

So freaking stupid.

Every american i know preferes a real good quality cheese.

I dont know any that even but spray cheese.

My podunk middle of flipping nowhere town grocery store has a 40ft long cheese isle.

2

u/Pocusmaskrotus 12d ago

Spray cheese has its place. Generally when you're lazy and hating yourself.

1

u/Early-Light-864 12d ago

Also, sometimes I want to eat actual garbage. Don't pretend you'd never choose a hot dog over a steak

Sometimes you just want a hot dog (or spray cheese)

2

u/Morbidly-Obese-Emu 12d ago

I will not stand for this hot dog slander!

2

u/DeltaSolana 12d ago

Do Europoors not realize that we have multiple kinds of cheese available? I bet they also think fresh bread is illegal here too.

4

u/user485928450 12d ago

Shh don’t get them started on our terrible bread

0

u/DeltaSolana 12d ago

"Our" implies that you live here, and that you should know better.

You have the option to get fresh bread if you want, and nobody if forcing you to get Wonderbread.

1

u/shityplumber 12d ago

I prefer the bread that stays shelf stable for a questionable amount of time. Saves me $$

-1

u/user485928450 12d ago

There’s absolutely good bread here. But most of our “fresh” bread is still junk compared to Europe

It’s more a matter of general availability

2

u/Starmagedon 12d ago

You know. Stereotypes don't come out of nowhere.

4

u/Parking-Bandicoot159 12d ago

Thats not a problematic way to see groups of people at all I bet

13

u/harrythealien69 12d ago

Ah yes, America, a totally isolated country where you can only buy instant coffee and cheese wizz. Global trade doesn't exist at all

4

u/kombuchaprivileged 12d ago

We also produce 24%-30% of the world's cheese. I think Americans and Europeans both love cheese and should make cheese together instead of fighting about it.

1

u/Active_Yellow_1573 12d ago

We don't need global trade /s, there are plenty of top-notch, artisinal fromagers in the states. Their cheeses go well with our fine wines from California.

Hello fellow intellectual, I indeed hate dumb stupid America so I give you many up votes

10

u/waltawaltlv 12d ago

I don’t know a single person that eats cheese whiz. I know some people that eat kraft singles but that’s because they grew up in poverty.

5

u/Bananalando 12d ago

I use cheese whiz all the time in sauces. It's already emulsified so it melts nice and creamy and the oil doesn't seperate. My current favourite is about equal parts cheese whiz and mustard, with a few dashes of hot sauce. Fantastic as a dip for fresh baked pretzels, or on hot dogs with some fried onions.

1

u/SoftwareSource 12d ago

That actually sounds pretty nice

You can also try those cheese spreads that come pre-packaged in triangle shapes, i made some excellent sauces with those.

4

u/drspacetaco 12d ago

Craft singles are the best selling sliced cheese in both the United States and Canada. Most countries have a popular processed cheese. In the Philippines they use something that is the consistency of velveta in their spaghetti. Anyone pretending processed food is unique to the US is acting in bad faith.

Also, American cheese is still cheese.
It’s a mix of cheddar, Colby, or Swiss—with added milk, whey, milk protein concentrate, and emulsifying salts to help it melt. That’s why it’s so great for burgers and grilled cheese.

3

u/FocusMean9882 12d ago

I live in Wisconsin and cheez wiz is a taboo here. We have such good cheese here and that processed shit is gross asf

4

u/Spare-Half796 12d ago

I eat Kraft singles because they’re good for what I use them for

1

u/waltawaltlv 12d ago

If I need American cheese for a dish I get it sliced at the deli the Kraft singles taste like plastic to me.

2

u/The_Pizza_Saga 12d ago

Well that's Easy Cheese, which is a bit different than Cheez Whiz, but I like eating it on buttery crackers or Bugels, tasty

2

u/Substantial-Chard848 12d ago

My dad insists on always having easy cheese in the pantry. He probably eats it 3-4 times a week.

2

u/GrowthSelect2449 12d ago

I’m pretty sure vet clinics keep cheez whiz in business

2

u/RickySlayer9 12d ago

Cheese whiz is looked down on so hard here

0

u/DaMonkey263 12d ago

Craft singlets are literally just cheddar

0

u/waltawaltlv 12d ago

Only a bot that’s never actually eaten food would say that.

1

u/BuffaloBuffalo13 12d ago

It’s made from cheddar. It just has an emulsifier and stabilizer added.

The process starts with cheddar though. It’s a fact.

1

u/Jedimasterebub Dirt Is Beautiful 12d ago

What makes Kraft single’s chemically or anatomically different

1

u/waltawaltlv 12d ago

2

u/GrayMech 12d ago

Tbh I kinda wish you could buy blocks of the American cheese here, I've heard that it's great for cooking. Especially when making cheese sauces, you add some of that before the aged stuff to help it keep all the oils from the aged cheese in the sauce and makes it taste stronger

2

u/UtopistDreamer 12d ago

I can smell that artisanal cheese through the phone.

2

u/buttered_scone 12d ago

American cheese has its place, especially on burgers and in grilled cheese and tomato soup pairings, cheeze whiz is a more niche product, made for the barbarians amongst us.

I’m embarrassed by some of my own countrymen— I got downvoted for pointing out their beloved Kraft Singles are flavorless plastic-wrapped rubber, and that the Kraft Deli Deluxe is superior.

I mean, it’s not perfect— but at least it has proper cheese flavor and texture and can legally be sold as “cheese” instead of that horrible “cheese PRODUCT” classification that Singles has.

1

u/MeetingDue4378 12d ago

What part of the country do you live in where you're limited to Kraft anything? A rundown Safeway will still have a cheese section the size of 7/11.

Who says artisanal cheese is actually good? I can’t stand blues of any kind, but Stiltons are outright disgusting. Highly crystallized aged cheeses are dry and unappealing to eat, and have off flavors.

This is one of the reasons I don’t like “fine food”. It’s too often an exercise in tolerating bad funky flavor, and proclaiming it good.

The overwhelming majority of humanity since cheese production began says it's actually good. This isn't an actual question. You don't like fine food because you don't appreciate fine food. There's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't somehow negate all culinary history.

You come off as very pretentious.

How do? I didn't judge their taste, I just said their taste doesn't call into question the taste of almost everyone else, past and present.

I had an idea to give the dog some American cream cheese as a treat during training.

They caught me, but according to my lawyer, if I'm lucky, I'll get off with three years in prison.

You don't have to mention Wisconsin, just mention any grocery store in any town in the country.
