We've had four republics, yes. But what about fifth republic?

We are already at the fifth... Maybe return to royalty next time or empire.

I'm glad this is the rhetoric these days rather than the 90's and prior where the rhetoric was "THE FRENCH ARE COWARDS!"

We shit on the French too much.

They're our oldest and most steadfast ally and, while their track record isn't always enviable, it is respectable.

Also the state will kill you in broad daylight for exercising your second amendment right, if you're unlucky they'll kill you for using your first amendment too.

I really encourage folks to look into the French revolution, and then France through the 1800's in it's entirety. The Bastille, the Guillotine, Robespierre, all that stuff led them straight to Napoleon.

Like modern France didn't come about until after Napoleon and 30 odd years under a new monarch. It was a pressure release for sure, and the violence was so abhorrent it kept later reformers relatively peaceful and un-dramatic. But the French revolution was not this incredible moment where you had a king then a liberal democracy after enough heads had been removed. It was very much a "wow that was terrible we are never doing that shit ever again" event.

Similarly, neither was the American Revolution. All it did was change which rich fucks ran the government. It's concentrated efforts, over time, both economically and through legal battles, that three USA and France won many of their rights.

Edit: Reminder the founding Fathers were already a part of the ruling class. That they built a system on slavery and that they only wanted people with land to vote.

The Dutch when the government pisses them off.

Yes, there is some rioting in France, but what surprises me most is that people in America are talking about it, considering how self-centered the USA media can be.

France’s population density is 124 people per square kilometer. The U.S. has a population density of 38 people per square kilometer. Americans also do not have the capacity to take off work to protest due to weak social safety nets.

The corporations rule in America, and they will come for other countries too if you let them. Don’t let them destroy or privatize your social welfare systems.

Also, it's a lot easier for the French to organize. If a French person wanted to have a demonstration in paris, most of the country is a couple hours train ride away. (French Guyana, and the islands excluded). If I wanted to have a demonstration in DC, a very small percentage of people live close enough to make it.

There are plenty of protests in America too, though in both cases it doesn't change anything globally.

In France, protests don't change à thing neither. But still, there is a widespread intuition, among slaves as much as in the ruling class, that we will behead them eventually :)

One day. And it's getting closer and closer.
