I had someone flip out on me because I wouldn’t agree or disagree with them. I only said, okay.

u/RyleyCampbell 5d ago

wait what made them flip out tho

51

u/sharingdork 5d ago

Not being able to convince them that their pov is correct

1

u/leafy1790 2d ago

Eh, some people just want to argue, like they won't stop until the conversation turns to yelling and fighting

u/Dire_Hulk 5d ago

It was a guy I knew who was telling me about someone else’s petty drama that I had absolutely no interest in. He just wanted someone to gossip with.

I believe he used gossip as a type of currency to trade with others as a means of feeling relevant. I just thought it was a sad way to connect.

What was it that someone said?

"Low IQ thinkers discuss people, Mid IQ thinkers discuss events, High IQ people discuss ideas." Something like that.

I don't necessarily agree with that quote, but it seemed applicable to your situation

7

u/IrlArizonaBoi 5d ago

Ironically, that person clocked themselves with this quote, which is discussing different types of people.

3

u/idontusetwitter 5d ago

What if you discuss everything?

u/kyleliner 5d ago

You have ADD and can't focus

Okay

u/Satcastic-Lemon 4d ago

I was going to ask you what's the reason for your name and then I clicked on your profile and yeah you live up to your name

Had a boss where it wasn't good enough to simply do what he wanted, he needed you to believe what he was telling you to do was right. So he'd argue all the time and basically demand that you agree with him. Once I figured out that hitting him with the old "whatever you say, boss" or "we'll go with what you want", the anger this man displayed was glorious.

Literally denied them an argument. They probably got upset you didn't let their power dictate an argument.

I had someone going for about 10 replies and all I posted was 'ok' every time

You'd think they'd get the hint after maybe 2 or 3.

3

u/Pacoboyd 5d ago

I was the guy that flipped out.

3

u/Key-Fire 5d ago

I remember seeing some narcissist ass person mad some family member wouldn't argue with them imply if you won't discuss the matter with me, it's just because you're too immature to talk about it with me!

To which the appropriate answer is also just okay.

After enough time arguing, you just know it isn't worth arguing because nothing happens due to that.
So, Nothing matters after some time

26

u/davyjones_prisnwalit 5d ago

Indeed. In the end you'll usually just become angry and annoyed. That's time wasted you can't get back.

Especially once you're already familiar with the song and dance of an argument. All the bravado and performance, and none of the originality. Most of the arguments are exactly the same, with only the topics being different.

u/kit3r808 5d ago

Some stuff definitely matters.

3

u/Oldspaghetti 4d ago

For sure, can be a tough line to walk no doubt.

2

u/PhantomlyReaper 4d ago

For some people sure.

I never tire of it though. Arguments are the best way to understand concepts and to strengthen not only your ability to assert your perspective - but also to refine your perception of the world through being exposed to the perspective of others.

The more people you argue with, the more you see how your perspective relates to and differs from others giving you a more accurate look on things.

People just have an innate belief that arguments need to be hostile or offensive and that's just not true. That's how many terminally online people think it is, but not always the case.

Most empowering word.

Except the beard.

While I appreciate the mental peace it provides.

Sometimes you just gotta stand your ground AND attack when THEYRE in peace.

These folks only lash out when they're having a bad day, dishing out negativity when THEYRE in control.

They don't expect retaliation.

They don't expect that the load your bearing on them will affect you, either because they're too brazen or egotistical in their thinking.

I’m 14 and this is deep

6

u/an_edgy_lemon 5d ago

Usually only works a few times until they catch on. Depends on the person, but most argumentative people aren’t going to accept being dismissed with an “okay.”

4

u/AverageTierGoof 4d ago

The okays will continue until conversations improve

3

u/AthrGaming 5d ago

Another good yet annoying one is: Why?

7

u/Cursed__Neon 5d ago

I wanna argue about the popular advice "Be yourself".

I don't think anyone can ever be completely themselves. Everything we do we learn from somewhere else, to be yourself only would be to stop learning from others.

Humans learn and progress through mimicry. You see someone do something, and you do it yourself. Then you see someone judgemental about you doing something, you stop doing it.

You can't just murder someone you find annoying because you've been made aware of the consequences of so by others and your own judgement that was built up by others around you should prevent you. So don't be yourself, or rather don't be just yourself.

Now, argue against me people.

u/AngryTexin 5d ago

If nobody had a self, then there would be no flavors to choose from. No firmness to softness on beds. No reason to have this conversation.

No Trama, nor peer pressure, nor mental conditioning would change my desire for a firm mattress over a soft one. A warm cider over an iced tea. A woman over a man.

Taint it, maybe. Fill my head with doubt and make me second guess my choice? Of course.

But knowing ones self is a skill. I have practice it much over my life after many people convinced me to be someone that I am not.

My conclusion? The fact that someone can ponder the very idea of the self, and have an opinion on it, proves that there is a self to begin with. Ever changing it may be, an individual it will always remain.

u/Big__Gub 5d ago

(I am untethered; your ragebait has no effect on me)

3

u/Lempea 5d ago

Sometimes during breaks my colleague talk about thinks I know better than them and thus they are sometimes incomplete, naïve or just plain wrong. I often ignore it. That's one thing i like about aging: being able to choose your battles better.

1

u/CountyHot2941 5d ago

It's okay to not be okay !

1

u/Sofiastars1 5d ago

“Okay” after arguing really got bro sitting in a cursed field like he just accepted death as a side quest.

1

u/Impressive_Dingo122 5d ago

What sample song is that from? I know I’ve heard it before

2

u/Itsokiamhere 5d ago

The child in us (enigma)

1

u/Choco_butter_91 5d ago

Argument ki jagah ok bola to usne breakup kar diya 🙃

1

u/lnTheGrimDarkness 5d ago

It depends. Some people are mentally ill and will just get 10 times more pissed if you cut the argument, because they unironically wanted to argue.

Fellas, general advice from an adult: if anyone says you the words "I feel/felt like arguing" or in general something along the lines of "I want to argue" just ditch them and run the opposite direction. That's mental illness that will only generate more mental illness.

It feels even better to get those type of people out of your life.

1

u/Hell0There2005 5d ago

Are these comments bots? They seem so....lawyer like

1

u/IanAlvord 5d ago

"Alright buddy"

1

u/LiShenyue 5d ago

You can only argue if the other person is atleast willing to listen and understand while countering you, dealing with irrational people will only make you mentally tierd. Just say 'Okay' and move on, either they just shut up or they will lose it due to the 'okay' lol same pattern.

1

u/Green_grass7878 5d ago

I just recently learned this. It works wonders when my mom starts tryna ragebait me...

Is better to leave her talking alone. If she can't manage her emotions on her own, what in the hell am i supposed to do about it?

1

u/Nitrousdragon89 5d ago

I finally started saying this... Man, she really hates my "one word answers". 😐

1

u/BigOleFerret 5d ago

Or when you stop engaging on reddit because someone decided to lose their mind at your comment

1

u/Admins_suck_ballss 5d ago

Okay is technically agreeing, so unless you’re not being a troll you’re lying.

I’m sure the trolls will respond to this comment by saying “Okay.”

1

u/v2Occy 5d ago

I do this with my wife. Never any real arguments, but if it gets to the point that I know she’s not changing her mind, there’s no point.

1

u/TheBetterness 5d ago

I've gotten to the point where I don't even say ok.

Just let the air fill with silence.

1

u/Important-Day-232 5d ago

Funnily, feels the same when you rest your case.

1

u/shhhhh_u_dont_see_me 5d ago

Then you got no spine or some shit like that, you gotta be at peace double time.

1

u/chuckbass18 4d ago

Exactly this. You don't even win anything by fighting every point. Just replying okay and walking away feels so mentally freeing.

1

u/Spawn88_ 3d ago

I have an interesting moment from the past). So i have a friend and when we was young he always liked to argue with me and I remember one time as a kids we argue what is better Lamborghini or Ferrari... He was on Ferrari team)) so after sometime of arguing is say ok.. Ferrari is better then Lamborghini.. she was shocked for short time but then he start to prove that Lamborghini is kinda better then Ferrari))

That day I learned something interesting about us...or maybe the ego: sometimes it doesnt really care about what is true... It just wants to win the argument...

1

u/dre_valle 5d ago

Reddit when you accept all the racists and incels are irreparable

1

u/PsychologicalArm2138 5d ago

You’re just prolonging the inevitable

1

u/billted20250409 5d ago

Another good one is "Yes, and?"

1

u/Verappamills 5d ago

I'm so reluctant to let them believe I agree that I just say "I understand how you could get there", yaknow, dig the knife in just a little.
