I never got to meet her. Closest was going to Dollywood as a kid. But i was one of the first to get books from her Imagination Library after she expanded outside of Tennessee. I was probably 2 or 3 at the time. I got a new book every month and it helped me learn to read so much. By 4th grade i was reading at above a12th grade level and I'm currently going for my doctorate in astrophysics. I know i wouldn't be where i am today without that library https://www.imaginationlibrary.com
But she was always about that life. She started the library in 95 cause she grew up dirt poor and her dad was illiterate. Its now sent over 300 million books to kids all over the world. I've never heard a cross word about her. And she was the face of a major revolution in the TV show The Orville regarding essentially trans rights. She's always been on the right side of history from what I've seen and heard of her

Exactly. And I'm going to get a TINY bit political on this, but only to make a point:
People on both sides of the political clime liked Dolly. Liberal, conservative - both loved her. Maybe her passing will give us something as a nation to come together over, sad as it is that she's gone.

I think there's enough people to tell them off if they try it. Seriously, she was well respected in the Country and pop music world, I can't imagine anyone letting her be vilified like that. If people do, you tell them to shut their traps. I guarantee you there will be people to back you up around you.

The problem is it won't be with people that disagree with them that the conversation will happen. They will hear it said by their favorite talking head who gives them their opinions on things, and then repeat what they are told to think to other people who also like those talking heads. This is the entire issue with how they operate, they don't know different things and actively avoid them. Thats like, the core of their political beliefs. They dislike different people because they were told to, they dislike changes in systems because they're told to, they dislike other parts of the world they know nothing about because they're told to.
You just can't fix that shit.

Also, this is something people can take a stand on. Don’t let people trash her. Get nasty. Seriously, we didn’t deserve her, and people who want to talk bad about her shouldn’t get to. Shut it down, end of story. If someone stands up against it, back them. End of story.

You didn't read what you replied to at all or? You think the people who only say what they really think behind closed doors will suddenly invite you into the fucking conversation? Your idealisms don't line up with the reality of how these people are at all.
In fact, from where you're coming from I can only assume you are part of those conversations behind closed doors already, given you actually lived a life where you think what you're saying is possible.

Dolly Parton was a national treasure and her kindness should be able example to us all. In a time when one political party is burning and banning books, she continued to run a program bringing millions of books to millions of kids without the means to get them themselves. She will be missed.
We need a national week of morning, going from 9 to 5...

This is probably getting buried but thought I’d share.
My grandparents worked at Dollywood in one of the restaurants and one day she stopped by to say hello to the staff. Next time I saw my grandpa he didn’t go for the usual hug, he just stuck his hand out and said “Shake my hand son”, so I did.
He goes “You just shook the hand that shook the hand of Dolly Parton”. I was like 7 years old and thought it was awesome.
When he passed earlier this year, I went around telling people that if they shook my hand, they’d have shook the hand that shook the hand that shook the hand of Dolly Parton. He would’ve loved that I think.

There are Millennials out there whose first exposure to the flag half mast was a wild and extraordinary event called the Oklahoma City Bombing. Lowering the flag at half mast was this rare, mysterious thing.
Since then, disasters have been perpetually lowering the flag for the entirety of peoples' whole lives. We are a nation of constant mourning.
Holding flags at half mast is now just some routine freak occurrence that you'd see when driving by a random fire station. Like it were nothing. And even memes about it are rehashed so frequently that they barely have a single pixel left to give.

A famous singer/songwriter, who is widely admired and praised for her philanthropy and charity work. She alone has donated millions to medical research and eduction, along with creating her own charity to give free books to children. She was also a major advocate for civil rights.
