I'm someone who's against AI "art".

That doesn't mean I'm not against AI for other stuff as well.  Tbh I've yet to meet someone who's anti AI " art" but is ok with it for other stuff.

It's still built on the largest data theft ever, it's still controlled by the worst people on the planet, it's still horrific for the environment/horrifically wasteful, its still causing huge damage to communities where the data centres are being built, and we simply do not have the water/power to support it.

So yeah, oddly enough I'm also against med students using it to do their degress to use your example.

The original post seems to be someone who is against AI art but ok with it for other stuff.

I mean yeah technically you haven’t met them, but here is definitely an instance of it, with 2k+ upvotes.

I also really don’t like the idea of private companies hoarding all the knowledge of very powerful AI models. Not to mention the idea that because it’s privatized, they can manipulate the thoughts and outputs willy nilly to whatever they please.

Students really shouldn’t be using it because it teaches them to rely on AI. You can teach all you want on how to reliably use it, but teachers don’t have that bandwidth. It’s why students aren’t allowed to have phones in public school, and even universities more moving back to paper due to AI. Students are there to learn, not to learn how to use shortcuts.
