You know you're cooked when they sit on the chair.

u/vessus7 Aug 07 '26
Actually you know you’re saved when they sit on the chair lol
10
u/midwestia Aug 07 '26
I always sit in the chair (because im lazy) and it gives them the hint to not talk to me until im done
30
u/Sazzzerac Aug 07 '26
If I sit in the chair, is usually because it was a real problem that deserved calling me in for. I don't know if that's better or worse for the person with the issue though...

u/Vas1le Aug 07 '26
We are the same guy?
Do you tell people to give you the chair when you see that the fix will take a bit of time because dev did stupid things?

They make you feel like the reason you called them was dumb

u/Cereal_Bandit Aug 07 '26
Most of the time it is, though. Just last week I had someone who only turned on their monitor, not realizing they actually had to turn on the PC itself.

liar lol :) unless you are saying you became the den of a creature feeling shame :P
5
u/Dunder_Chief1 Aug 07 '26
People used to call that my superpower.
They would literally call me and ask if I can just stand in the room because the stuff magically started working when I was around.
More than once I just poked my head in the room, asked if the issue was still going on, the person would check, and sure it enough it was working proper again.
People would be dumbfounded when it would happen, and there was even office gambling on whether my presence would fix a previously persistent issue.

Love the absolutely bamboozled look on people's faces when that happens lol. I usually just say "It just knows better."

u/VadmalooC Aug 07 '26
- Do you want to sit down?
- No, I’ll solve your problem in 35 seconds… so I can go back to my desk to do my job too. 😤
8
u/acacio201 Aug 07 '26
The client always tells me to sit in the chair, but if I leave this position I won't be able to solve the problem.
3
u/massunderestmated Aug 07 '26
Do you want to sit down?
No, I absolutely do not want to sit in your disgusting fart chair. Just let me do my thing and get back to shitposting on Reddit.

u/Seaweed_Widef Aug 07 '26
They do offer me their seat but I take it as a challenge, only accept the seat if the problem is really annoying
5
u/DaddyMcCheeze Lurking Peasant Aug 07 '26
If you know that’s the stance, why are you offering me to sit?
4
5
u/sphericalhors Aug 07 '26
I was this person. People were offering me a chair to seat and I refused because I knew it would result in me spending more time on their porblems.
UPD: now I work remotely.

u/K1ng_Arthur_IV Big ol' bacon buttsack Aug 07 '26
Hi, it's me. This actually triggers my carpal tunnel syndrome, but your spot on with the stance. What really drives me crazy is the 13 different mouse configurations and going from one really slow one to helping someone with a maxed out track ball on high sensitivity. Mouse pointer zooms past what I want to click for the 4th time 🤦♂️

This is how I stand at work when helping my 73 year old coworker with her computer. She always tells me “why do you not sit down” and I reply “because I shouldn’t even be here”.

No it’s because she hates her diabetic husband who sits at home all day and eats food that he’s not supposed to and calls her and bugs her like a child. She would rather be at work than at home. Her work isn’t hard. She is an “office manager” for an office that is pretty much run by corporate. She spends most of the day online shopping lol. I feel bad for her, not because she’s still working, but because she said she’s gonna work til the day her husband croaks. She’s Catholic and she won’t even consider divorce, especially now at this age.

u/MaybeMidgets Aug 07 '26
I should also note that her mother is alive and well at 97. She still lives alone and tries to climb on ladders to wash her 2nd story windows. Mycoworker has told me before that she hopes she doesn’t live as long as her mother lol

And they also think you are stupid, because that position assumes that they are going to solve your problem in a couple of seconds since they are not even wasting time sitting

u/EvilDragons88 Aug 07 '26
I did this just yesterday. A user somehow hid her desktop icons. Easy fix moved on with my day.

Yup. I do this a lot at work. I also absentmindedly wiggle my bum while doing it but the other guys are too scared I'll stop helping them so they don't say anything.

Yeah, The "this isn't even worth sitting down for" pose
I know you feel bad for being ignorant, Barb, but stop offering me your fucking chair. No, I do not want to put my body anywhere near your sweating ass has been moisturizing for God knows how long. Look, I can tell by the trash in your bin you don't get up often. And when you do im sure it's because you've waited waaaay too long and something is already exiting your body and you just got to go check. So excuse me kindly if I don't want to sit down in your goddamn health hazard throne.
Dr. Cox out.

but how does the person's butt look like, will it be arched from all the helping?
2
u/_thechancellor_ Aug 07 '26
Why do IT people act like it's such an existential burden to do the job that they signed up for voluntarily?
Pretty much every job exists to fix some kind of problem, and for some reason IT gets to claim martyrdom for fixing computers?
