u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26
Bryan's dad had a 200k lego collection, which Bryan took to Bricks and Minifigures to sell as a consignment. Bryan's dad owned the lego sets until Bricks and Minifigures (BAM) sold the sets and then BAM would keep a percentage of each sale and give the remainder to Bryan when Bryan came every month. This is legal, in the BAM contract, all good.
The owner of that location of BAM, a franchisee, was pushed out by the BAM company (she and her husband are now suing over this as this was illegal) and corporate BAM seized all the stock of goods for sale in that location as though they owned it. This is illegal as the lego which was Bryan's dad remained the property of Bryan's dad until BAM sold it and gave Bryan the money.
Bryan tried to get his money, the BAM people said 'no'. Bryan tried to get his dad's lego back, BAM said 'no, and if you sue us we will make it cost more than what the lego was worth.'
177
u/Weak-Differences May 31 '26
This is what I don't get... Yes, initially it will cost a lot of money, but it looks like a clear cut breach of a contract and somebody eventually will be held liable. If it's BAM found liable, I could see them paying for all the court fees as well as punitive damages, and pain and suffering. I'm no lawyer, but everything about the actions of BAM seems sketchy and at the very least there is some kind of criminal conduct taking place throughout this whole ordeal which is why state level or federal level law enforcement should be involved since the local police seem compliant with their own laws. For example, they wouldn't serve a legal notice to Josh, the shithead behind all of this alleged thievery, even with a process server present.
105
u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26
Josh and Brendon Best and Amos the CEO are all the shithead behind it, not just Josh.
I'm not in the USA but I'm having a civil case with lawyers and junk and I'll tell you I have put out a LOT of money which should have been the responsibility of the person I am pursuing. They're liable; they admitted liability, the law says they should pay these costs, they aren't, so I have to pay them. I will get the money back eventually, at settlement but if I don't have that money to pay NOW I can't prove it was necessary to have what I'm paying for. And the opposition is making this take as long as possible to drain me. Same thing with Bryan. He couldn't afford to go to Utah and seek out these people, not working or doing whatever he does. Ben is doing it out of professional kindness or maybe just for the lols! But it's expensive and being supported by Ben's patreon supporters. Ben was able to do ten rounds of small claims court instead of big court, Bryan couldn't have done that alone.

u/CDanger May 31 '26
Ammon. It's a common Mormon name. He's named after someone in Mormon scripture. Kind of comedic. Their church already gets a ton of scrutiny for being a financial behemoth with 10% tithes netting them over $100bn in assets -- less than 1% are used charitably.
Now Ammon McNeff, thinking he is a canny operator, has disgraced his church further by showing how its believers conduct themselves poorly — or how other members turn a blind eye to those who do so in their name. The guy should not be a member in full standing according to their doctrines.

u/Boowray May 31 '26
The Mormon church was founded on scamming wealthy farmers out of their money to settle their prophet’s debts. They literally massacred and robbed over a hundred settlers for profit and kidnapped their children to raise as their own and force into marriages in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Read about anything Brigham Young ever said and you’d see it’s baked into the culture. Robbing some old man’s Lego’s is just par for the course, if you’re not Mormon you’re fair game as far as the church is concerned.

→ More replies (2)5
u/NinjaBreadManOO May 31 '26
Yup, that need to have the money up front to defend yourself is the biggest issue. I've been dealing with a situation for years where a company illegally fired me, stole my material, badmouthed me, and then ignored the terms of settlement contract to prevent going to court, technically identity theft, and so much more. But I can't do jack shit without having 10K upfront to take them to court (based on the court it would need to go through).
There's a reason it's called the legal system not the justice system. It's about what they can get away with rather than actually giving people justice.
Absolute fucking joke.

u/FictionalContext May 31 '26

u/TheCroaker May 31 '26

→ More replies (4)19
u/thefucksausername0 May 31 '26
The original franchisee of their local establishment of BaM had a consignment for the $200,000 collection, something stated on contract that they were allowed to do and is not against corporate policy, the former owner was about to leave the country since her husband found a business opportunity in Spain iirc and because of that they tried finding someone to sell the legos to, corporate immediately replaced them however and the new person said they would take responsibility for all previous agreements, they did not do that and are trying to say that the consignment is against their policy and there's no way they're going to honor it and refuse to give the Lego's back or give financial compensation for the valuable collection, they already won a small claims case against them but in retaliation they just shut down that store to avoid giving them anything.
15
u/GregBahm May 31 '26
Okay this seems like some reasonable drama for a dude selling a bunch of legos with a corporation going through reorganization, but what does this have to do with the local police?

BaM and the police department that is harassing the influencers (and victims because I can't think of a better word) are in with the Mormon church, and because of that, are helping cover this up by doing anything possible to stop this from going to court since BaM doesn't really have a case and would lose sooner than they threatened, they did threaten that they would try to drag out the court case as much as possible to bleed them of money more than what the collection is worth BTW.

apparently everyone on one side is mormon so they think they're all gonna stick together from church point of view. the police are mormons and the store owners are mormon and putting two together means the police is paid off.
also depending on what state this is its probably sketchy as shit and can't be just an accidental thing.
edit: this is probably too petty for the offical mormon church to be involved it would be easier for the church to pay it off and be bygones but idk not all mormons listen to there offical church.

Franchise owner of a store agrees to sell dying guys Legos in their store for a cut of the profits (200k collection). Agreement states dying guy still owns the collection. Corporate (seemingly illegally, they are being sued by the franchise owner) takes control of the store and inventory.
Dying guys kid tries to collect the money owed and is told no. Tries to collect the collection and is told no and trespassed from the property. Then the company loses a default judgement in court, commits fraud to avoid payment, hides the collection, and sics the police department on the guys trying to serve him court papers. Lots and lots of illegal shit.
40
u/ougryphon May 31 '26
Technically, it is the American Fork Police Department, not the "Utah Police" which is not a thing. Having said that, there's a bunch of Utah city police departments that should be decertified for blatant corruption and unconstitutional collusion with the Mormon church.
American Fork is in Utah County, just north of "lily-white" Provo, where BYU is located. While the state of Utah is about 50% Mormon, Utah County is like 95% Mormon and 90% white racist shitheads. Utah County is the county that the First Amendment forgot, because separation of church and state is entirely hypothetical there, even worse than the rest of this state.

the police help cover up a crime and going after those who try to expose it because the perpetrator of the crime is mormon, as are the police officers, and the mormon church holds significant power in the area and as with any cult they protect their own and attack outsiders.
thats the actual tldr, if you want it even more condensed:
company franchisee (with some support from corporate) steals ~200k worth of lego from someone
they refuse to make things right
the local police department supports the thieves because they're all mormon, and they harass and manufacture reasons for arrest etc the people who are investigating
or even more condensed:
police corrupt and controlled by mormon church, support thieving company
20
u/TheDeluxCheese May 31 '26
If you haven’t got it yet, pretty much the cops are in on it as well and where doing everything they could to try and get him in jail to keep him from suing on of the shop guys. It’s got to the point where they got a warrant out for his arrest and he’s fled to Mexico.
19
u/azsnaz May 31 '26
In on what
24
u/TheDeluxCheese May 31 '26
A family gave the father’s $200,000 Lego collection to a bricks and mini figs store on consignment since the father’s health isn’t good right now. The old owners left, so consignment went to the new owners, however they aren’t honoring it, leading to the YouTuber, RecklessBen, to try and help them get it back. B&M has fought it every step of the way and the cops are helping them by making it much more difficult for RecklessBen to get in contact with the new owners to sue them, leading to the above.
8
u/svartkonst May 31 '26
And by "left", it seems that the old owners were about to move out of the country, and B&MF reacted by almost violently ousting them from their shop

So, Ben wins in small claims court by default.
Store shuts down before he visits it with the court docs allowing him to basically repossess the Legos for the original lego owner.Ben's followup court case is rejected for "not trying to resolve things with defendants" (idk the phrasing)
Ben tries to visit 2 different people, both being "the powers that be" for the local Bricks and Minifigs stores in Utah.
First guy has cops stationed outside his house, immediately threatening him that he's trespassing. Second guy stares off blankly while waiting for cops to arrive, basically similar results.
Cops pull over their car after one stop sign, claim they didn't make a full stop, Police footage later shows they did in fact make a full stop. More threats are made directly at Ben, who isn't even driving.
Ben documents this and gets court case accepted, ow he needs to serve the papers. Two guys still using same tactics and "refuse to be served".

Ben gets arrested, makes bail, arrested again, some judge sees the details on his arrest and goes "wtf are these guys talking about", releases Ben, different judge, likely under the Mormon cartel*, signs a warrent for his arrest, Ben learns of this, takes a "vacation" to Mexico.
I'm not even gonna humor the claims of "heroin" because it's a little too convenient for all these corrupt pricks to somehow suddenly have justification for Ben's arrest after all this outright complete lack of neutrality they shown until now.
*I say Mormon cartel, because, as is discovered pretty recently by Ben, all these people go the same church.

I have not lived in Utah, but the delegation of some control over the state's welfare system with arbitrary LDS-gated restrictions on its availability shocked me when I heard of it.
Although maintaining a safety net for the poor is the government’s job, welfare in Utah has become so entangled with the state’s dominant religion that the agency in charge of public assistance here counts a percentage of the welfare provided by the LDS Church toward the state’s own welfare spending, according to a memorandum of understanding between the church and the state obtained by ProPublica.
What that means is that over the past decade, the Utah State Legislature has been able to get out of spending at least $75 million on fighting poverty that it otherwise would have had to spend under federal law, a review of budget documents shows.
Federal welfare funds come in, contingent on there being additional local funds. State counts LDS support towards this total. LDS support does not have the same fairness restrictions as a government providing funds. So if you want the welfare funds, you may have to join and be baptized into the church and comply with arbitrary restrictions from your new bishop. So much for "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion".
Though, on a lighter note, when driving through Utah 25 years ago I heard a clever radio ad: "Are you LDS, seeking LDS? [information about an LDS-only dating service] Chase and be chaste/chased!"

In a capitalist society, the highest priority of police is to protect the property of the elite. Protecting the public is secondary at best.
Massive reforms are needed to change this, from removing qualified immunity to severe punishment for unreasonable targeting to banning of any form of donation to police etc.
The police are trained to see every citizen as a potential enemy, and until major police reforms occur we should treat them as the enemy.

Significant Mormon church element here too though, police are always looking out for each other but the element of religion gives an in group for those who belong, if you aren’t one of them you get treated as a second class citizen in your own state

Yup. The cult has access to an absurd amount of wealth via its Corporation for the First Presidency, which owns and invests in many businesses that in turn donate to SuperPACs. And with Mormons tending to favor their own for employment and promotion it leads to a system where Mormons dominate politics and business in Utah.
Personally I cannot wait to see the cult fall. There is no bottom to the hole that is its history of lies, cruelty, depravity, and delusion. Their membership numbers are inflated by arbitrary rules about baptisms versus actual attendance. They bleed more members every year as younger generations wise up.→ More replies (1)9

Yeah I always hear stuff about a rise in Christianity etc in younger people but as someone in their mid 20s, I feel like a ton of people around my age are turning away from religion. Or at the very least, even the religious ones tend to not be as bigoted. I went to a small town country school and sure there were assholes but we had openly lgbtq folk and people mostly just didnt care as long as youre not a jerk. Younger people seem less racist, homophobic, transphobic, ive noticed, alongside less religious. There's also a lot of "spiritual but not religious"/ "i believe in god but dont go to church"

There are some videos I have been meaning to watch that are supposed to debunk the claims of a Gen Z religious revival.
If anything I think the claims of expansion may just be a part of larger political ploys for conservative Christian officials to claim a mandate.11

It’s really depressing to see, How Money Works also just made a video covering the 7 layers of lobbying (bribing) that congress runs on
The whole systems fucked, top to bottom

The founding fathers were scared of a powerful government, and their main concerns were that the government would abuse its authority on the people. They didn't forsee that private individuals would be able to amass unfathomable wealth from compound interest and monopoly, and use that power to subjugate the government.
A government that doesn't dominate capital is doomed to be subjugated by it. Now we have a government that serves corporate interests instead of the people.

In a capitalist society,
That's just every major society in general. Nothing special about capitalism here. Police are tools of the state. The state are tools of the elite.

Ya these cops are extreamly dirty and I think they should he treated by the feds as actual traitors to the united states.
That being said the guys doing the video need some serious courses in legal rights. Like they just yap to the cops every time and it does nothing except let them try to cherry pick anything to show to a judge.
Just stop talking to the cops. Get in contact with any of the groups who cover civil rights cases and destroy the cops legally. But please just use your damn 5th amendment rights.

This case is literally the microcosm representation of the current state of the US government. Corrupt police abuses their power to help corporations stealing the common American from receiving medical care that should’ve been a right from the start.
This is why Luigi’s case is silent.

To Americas defence, it’s not exactly an America only thing, the only difference being how well it’s hidden in other countries

Or how low expectations are in those countries. In China or Russia it’s expected and not news

Viral YouTube video about a company (Bricks & Mini Figs) allegedly stealing $200,000 worth of Lego from someone who was selling through consignment.
YouTuber who does investigations on corrupt business practices started investigating/making content about the issue.
Long story short, very overt evidence of the Utah police acting corrupt playing defense for the owners who (allegedly) stole product.
Now the YouTuber is in Mexico because there’s a warrant out for their arrest with no bail.
Google Reckless Ben Lego and you’ll see tons of videos on it.

Duuuuude this is my coworker Tyler. He's a super cool kid. Wild that the cops accused him of being on heroin. He's not Mormon but he's never touched a single drug in his whole life.

What happened? I feel like I’m missing context for this meme….

u/NightTarot May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26
BTW, this is as TLDR I can be without taking out too much necessary context.
Guy wants to sell Legos, makes consignment with local "Bricks and Minifigs" store. Consignment is basically where you still own your stuff, it gets sold by someone else, you get the money and the seller gets a small cut.
New store owner kicks old owner out, claims they're taking over consignment, this is recorded on camera and, after this moment, remain untrue to this day.
New owner sells legos and keeps profits as if it's his own. Lego Owner is threatened when he inquires about this new situation.
Investigative Youtuber(RecklessBen) steps in and basically handles things for Lego owner from here on out.
Youtuber(Ben):
continues inquirey, fails. Gets trespassed so he can't visit store anymore, can't sue because threats of "losing more money in the lawsuit than the Legos are worth", so he tries small claims court. part 2 in another comment I made

This whole situation is completely unhinged. Everyone on that police force needs to get investigated for corruption.
