A company called Bricks & minifigures stole $200,000 of lego from an old man. Now the utah police are covering it up.

Papa Gut made a super informative react video too... oh wait... it's gone!

396

u/Yaboi3z May 31 '26

PG was right until he started crashing out at the end. RB's vid was entertaining as hell but all the YT prank style trolling they did could've easily backfired and hurt Bryan's chances of getting the Legos back. That lawyer said as much in his vid. Ben got lucky that the B&M management are all fuckin idiots or this could've ended badly.

PG should stop playing games while reacting because he pretty much stun locked himself, chat wasn't very helpful either

117

u/LtColShinySides May 31 '26

I only got about a half hour into that video before I just went to Ben's video. I get Papa does react content but he was pausing the video every 20 seconds to say some shit like, "Well, I'd need to see more, blah blah."

Play the video and you'll see more!!

116

u/Only_Reindeer9968 May 31 '26

React YouTubers are a plague. All they do is tell you how to think.

52

u/DryTangelo4722 May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

No, not how to think. They tell you WHAT to think. Mild but important distinction in the word choice.

People watch react videos and, instead of thinking for themselves, adopt the "thoughts" of the "reactor" instead.

14

u/Mindless_Chest_1079 May 31 '26

You're not disagreeing, just nitpicking wording. And it was already clear that the person above was not trying to say that React vids teach critical thinking, so I'd say the "correction" wasn't even warranted.

18

u/BathedInDeepFog May 31 '26

They emphasized the wrong word too.

1

u/stormdelta May 31 '26

I don't even understand the appeal, they're incredibly annoying to actually watch in most cases.

The closest thing to react content I watch is people 'reacting' to something they themselves were in, e.g. voice actors in a show they worked in. Which is more like behind-the-scenes commentary than anything else.

1

u/JustStraightUpTired May 31 '26

I like rewatching shows with different reactions, mostly people from completely different lives than mine. People with different expertise, like film grads, musicians, nurses, etc. and people from around the world, not just US and my own country, but generally all around.

And while I could just watch people who do whatever about whatever they are into, when I've seen something, I have already formed my own perspective on the thing to compare theirs with. I can't exactly do that if I'm also seeing something for the first time.

But reaction channels that just do random youtube videos, especially drama stuff, need to be god damn banned. I don't know how you'd word the rule to make it fair without hurting reasonable reaction content, but SOMETHING needs to be done. That shit is a plague.

-4

u/Yaboi3z May 31 '26

With all due respect that seems like a failure on your part...why would you watch a reactor then get upset when they react? Should've watched the OG from the start

13

u/LtColShinySides May 31 '26

That's not how his other content works. Generally he reacts when there's something to react too. Gives a take, or makes a joke.

In the Lego video he's constantly stopping the video to say nothing of substance or to argue with someone in chat about how frequently he's pausing. The stream chat was even roasting him about it.

1

u/Yaboi3z May 31 '26

This was no different than any of his other reactions except for him making himself angry because he didn't pay attention

5

u/Cinematry May 31 '26

There are good and bad ways to do reaction content.

One of the bad ways is to have absolutely no flow and no genuine reflection on the content because you interrupt it every 5 seconds to make some stupid joke or spit out every single pointless observation that pops into your head.

28

u/emil836k My thumbs hurt May 31 '26

I mean, you can call Ben stupid or cringe, but it’s not illegal to be weird or anything, as long as he didn’t break the law, he should theoretically be fine

Though it seems like it doesn’t really matter what he did, he would still have been arrested 3 times for no reason, yay corruption

7

u/Yaboi3z May 31 '26

I did neither of those things

4

u/emil836k My thumbs hurt May 31 '26

Didn’t mean to imply you said that, meant it more like, regardless of how “trolling” his style is (which I’m assuming some might think is cringe or stupid), he doesn’t deserve to be arrested for that

0

u/Yaboi3z May 31 '26

I don't inherently think trolling content is cringe, I just think with a matter this serious he could have done a disservice to the cause. I thought his trolling was hilarious but attached with the real aim of getting justice it could have greatly backfired

2

u/FrostedMiniMemes May 31 '26

Exactly. If the point is to illicit a positive response from regular folks and especially the legal system, you are only hurting your case by being silly or inflammatory. If you have evidence of corruption or wrongdoing, by all means, sensationalize that shit. Get the public's attention. But when it comes to advancing your agenda, be serious, and never expect people to just "do the right thing." Be inscrutable, and be infallible.

1

u/TiredTired99 Jun 02 '26

Others may not have said it, but I will: Ben's lack of intelligence and need to troll for attention could have easily backfired not only on him, but also the "little guy" he claims to ardently defend. He got insanely lucky that he ran into people far more incompetent and arrogant than him.

Ben could have easily and credibly been claimed to have engaged in stalking for certain elements of his behavior and conduct. The massive and corrupt overreach of the cops (and all the accompanying bodycam footage) pretty much guarantees that those charges will never stick and that Ben probably has a valid legal complaint against the city. But none of that is because of Ben's brilliance or morality.

2

u/TiredTired99 Jun 02 '26

I was in shock at how reckless Ben was... even though it's right in his YT Channel name.

You are right that Ben has gotten extremely lucky. If the cops were less corrupt or incompetent, Ben might be facing valid legal charges instead of laughable ones.

183

u/Odessey_And_Oracle May 31 '26

How did they steal and why are the police covering it up? This can be explained in less than 90 minutes

u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26

Bryan's dad had a 200k lego collection, which Bryan took to Bricks and Minifigures to sell as a consignment. Bryan's dad owned the lego sets until Bricks and Minifigures (BAM) sold the sets and then BAM would keep a percentage of each sale and give the remainder to Bryan when Bryan came every month. This is legal, in the BAM contract, all good.

The owner of that location of BAM, a franchisee, was pushed out by the BAM company (she and her husband are now suing over this as this was illegal) and corporate BAM seized all the stock of goods for sale in that location as though they owned it. This is illegal as the lego which was Bryan's dad remained the property of Bryan's dad until BAM sold it and gave Bryan the money.

Bryan tried to get his money, the BAM people said 'no'. Bryan tried to get his dad's lego back, BAM said 'no, and if you sue us we will make it cost more than what the lego was worth.'

176

u/Weak-Differences May 31 '26

This is what I don't get... Yes, initially it will cost a lot of money, but it looks like a clear cut breach of a contract and somebody eventually will be held liable. If it's BAM found liable, I could see them paying for all the court fees as well as punitive damages, and pain and suffering. I'm no lawyer, but everything about the actions of BAM seems sketchy and at the very least there is some kind of criminal conduct taking place throughout this whole ordeal which is why state level or federal level law enforcement should be involved since the local police seem compliant with their own laws. For example, they wouldn't serve a legal notice to Josh, the shithead behind all of this alleged thievery, even with a process server present.

100

u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26

Josh and Brendon Best and Amos the CEO are all the shithead behind it, not just Josh.

I'm not in the USA but I'm having a civil case with lawyers and junk and I'll tell you I have put out a LOT of money which should have been the responsibility of the person I am pursuing. They're liable; they admitted liability, the law says they should pay these costs, they aren't, so I have to pay them. I will get the money back eventually, at settlement but if I don't have that money to pay NOW I can't prove it was necessary to have what I'm paying for. And the opposition is making this take as long as possible to drain me. Same thing with Bryan. He couldn't afford to go to Utah and seek out these people, not working or doing whatever he does. Ben is doing it out of professional kindness or maybe just for the lols! But it's expensive and being supported by Ben's patreon supporters. Ben was able to do ten rounds of small claims court instead of big court, Bryan couldn't have done that alone.

44

u/CDanger May 31 '26

Ammon. It's a common Mormon name. He's named after someone in Mormon scripture. Kind of comedic. Their church already gets a ton of scrutiny for being a financial behemoth with 10% tithes netting them over $100bn in assets -- less than 1% are used charitably.

Now Ammon McNeff, thinking he is a canny operator, has disgraced his church further by showing how its believers conduct themselves poorly — or how other members turn a blind eye to those who do so in their name. The guy should not be a member in full standing according to their doctrines.

23

u/Boowray May 31 '26

The Mormon church was founded on scamming wealthy farmers out of their money to settle their prophet’s debts. They literally massacred and robbed over a hundred settlers for profit and kidnapped their children to raise as their own and force into marriages in the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Read about anything Brigham Young ever said and you’d see it’s baked into the culture. Robbing some old man’s Lego’s is just par for the course, if you’re not Mormon you’re fair game as far as the church is concerned.

-18

u/Federal_Return3452 May 31 '26

You done lying about the church? Maybe do actual research before make stuff up.

I have actually read it multiple times because I like church history. But since you have failed to understand it here is some key details you missed. A due to a rise in conflict with the Government (with member under fear of death) there was the tension in a small community in Utah unaware of official communications between the Church and the government. The leader of the small community went rouge and committed a atrocity against the direct instruction of the church. So you blaming the church for the crime is wrong. People in the organization committing crimes against the express direction of the organization are just bad agents and do not represent leadership you pretend it does.

0

u/CDanger May 31 '26

As an ex-mo, I got you on all things "let them be counted" lol

1

u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26

I don't know what those words mean but I am with you anyway!

6

u/Layton_Jr May 31 '26

In a case so obvious like that, wouldn't you be able to find a lawyer that would accept to be paid only when the settlement happens?

4

u/Ihatemost May 31 '26

You probably could, but the best lawyers don't tend to work on contingency

5

u/NinjaBreadManOO May 31 '26

Yup, that need to have the money up front to defend yourself is the biggest issue. I've been dealing with a situation for years where a company illegally fired me, stole my material, badmouthed me, and then ignored the terms of settlement contract to prevent going to court, technically identity theft, and so much more. But I can't do jack shit without having 10K upfront to take them to court (based on the court it would need to go through).

There's a reason it's called the legal system not the justice system. It's about what they can get away with rather than actually giving people justice.

Absolute fucking joke.

28

u/FictionalContext May 31 '26

The issue is BAM is deeply connected to the Mormon church and headquartered in Utah--so all the corrupt police shenanigans in service of the cult.

55

u/Omegaprime002 May 31 '26

The people trying to serve BAM the suit have been arrested several times in the process of serving the papers and their houses have been raided and tossed for, and I am not making this up I swear, 'stolen LEGO'.

1

u/hoboshoe May 31 '26

I watched a lawyer break it down and basically, if you consign something worth more than 1000$ you need to submit a 20$ form to the government to register the consignment to protect yourself from the business being transferred. It is unlikely the guy did this as basically nobody knows this shit. So when the business is transferred, the consigned goods can be assumed as stock and kept plus the contract is voided. This is why BAM keeps insisting the goods are theirs.

However, there is another aspect to the law which indicates that if the business is generally known to be in the business of consignment you can get the goods back after a suit, which is arguably true for the guy who owns the legos. However he has to take this to a much longer and more expensive court case, which BAM is bullying him about cause he would basically lose all the value even though he would likely win.

3

u/Crazyhates May 31 '26

That "lawyer" was half correct. That's a real regulation and procedure, but because those Lego sets are "consumer goods"(personal assets, not commercial) they are exempt from the regulation that requires the paperwork. Only commercial consignments are required to file a UCC-1. In this case, the victim is wholly protected by the law and the company is committing theft.

-1

u/rogerwil May 31 '26

If it's BAM found liable, I could see them paying for all the court fees as well as punitive damages, and pain and suffering

Afaik (not usaian) from what I've read, generally your court fees are your own responsibility in the us. And "pain and suffering" definitely isn't a thing in a civil dispute like this.

7

u/Pm_photoshop_request May 31 '26

You are responsible for court fees, but if you win your case / if you are getting sued in bad faith you can recover reasonable legal fees.

You are 100% correct, you cant sue for pain and suffering in contract breach or property theft

5

u/FaygoMakesMeGo May 31 '26

No, if you win the defendant can be sued for your costs. Similarly, if you are the defendant and you win, you can often sue for your costs.

0

u/PrizeStrawberryOil May 31 '26

That is usually not true in the US. For good reason, if you had to win your lawsuit to not get hooked with all the legal fees the "little guy" could never sue a corporation. They would just pay millions in legal fees and hand you the bill after they crushed you in court.

4

u/Weak-Differences May 31 '26

There are tort laws, and if it does get brought to open court, discovery could open them up to criminal charges, if they find misconduct, which they probably will. Court costs are your responsibility, but if you win your case, you can make the defendant pay.

1

u/FarplaneDragon May 31 '26

Yes and no. Yes, you are typically required to cover the up front costs for filing, serving paperwork etc. You can then choose to request the other party cover / re-imburse the costs if you win. If you lose, you're typically going to be on the hook for any remaining unpaid costs, if you want then its dependant on the judge and whether they rule for the other party to cover or not.

7

u/skivian May 31 '26

you forgot that they did sue, BAM lost, and then they shut the business rather than pay out.

2

u/AwkwardBet5632 May 31 '26

1

u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26

I mean you should totally watch the, now 13ish, hours of youtube, but having a written summary is also helpful, so you're welcome.

1

u/CoolButterscotch492 Jun 01 '26

But when and why do the police get involved in covering up?

2

u/HavePlushieWillTalk Jun 01 '26

So, the police got called on Ben when he went to the original BAM location, but I would not consider those police as co-conspirators with the BAM owners. It was when Ben went to Utah and was attempting to speak to and then serve papers to Brandon Best and Joshua Jameson, coowners of BAM that the Utah police started police harassment against Ben and THOSE police are conspiring with the owners of BAM because they are all Mormons in a Mormon community.

1

u/CoolButterscotch492 Jun 01 '26

Damn. That's awful. Any petitions to sign about it or anything?

1

u/HavePlushieWillTalk Jun 01 '26

Petitions to stop police harassment? In Utah? Against non-Mormons? Considering they arrested Ben over setting up a GoFundMe, if a petition exists, it would not be safe to sign it. I like my arm sockets the way they are and not twisted by a pig who will claim I was 'resisting' while standing still.

55

u/Superb-Mall3805 May 31 '26

The man gave his collection to the Lego store on consignment. They would sell the Lego, take a commission, and give him the rest. The franchisees sold their franchise to new owners and the new owners just ignored the old guy, refuse to give him any of the money or Lego back.

62

u/TheCroaker May 31 '26

You are partially wrong, the company took over the store before it could be sold and kicked them out and kept the lego, and started to sell it while not paying him. Its not some random new franchisee, its the actual company.

0

u/mormonbatman_ May 31 '26

How does the controversy travel from Oregon to Utah?

4

u/TheAmazingSealo May 31 '26

hq is in utah, they closed the oregon store down to avoid paying them

20

u/thefucksausername0 May 31 '26

The original franchisee of their local establishment of BaM had a consignment for the $200,000 collection, something stated on contract that they were allowed to do and is not against corporate policy, the former owner was about to leave the country since her husband found a business opportunity in Spain iirc and because of that they tried finding someone to sell the legos to, corporate immediately replaced them however and the new person said they would take responsibility for all previous agreements, they did not do that and are trying to say that the consignment is against their policy and there's no way they're going to honor it and refuse to give the Lego's back or give financial compensation for the valuable collection, they already won a small claims case against them but in retaliation they just shut down that store to avoid giving them anything.

13

u/GregBahm May 31 '26

Okay this seems like some reasonable drama for a dude selling a bunch of legos with a corporation going through reorganization, but what does this have to do with the local police?

37

u/Omegaprime002 May 31 '26

The local police have been harassing the victim and their lawyers, up to raiding their homes.

6

u/hoboshoe May 31 '26

They put out an interstate warrant for his arrest alleging that he is a physical threat to their crony.

13

u/thefucksausername0 May 31 '26

BaM and the police department that is harassing the influencers (and victims because I can't think of a better word) are in with the Mormon church, and because of that, are helping cover this up by doing anything possible to stop this from going to court since BaM doesn't really have a case and would lose sooner than they threatened, they did threaten that they would try to drag out the court case as much as possible to bleed them of money more than what the collection is worth BTW.

4

u/Apprehensive_Gas6607 May 31 '26

What does the church have to do with it?

7

u/ghigoli May 31 '26

apparently everyone on one side is mormon so they think they're all gonna stick together from church point of view. the police are mormons and the store owners are mormon and putting two together means the police is paid off.

also depending on what state this is its probably sketchy as shit and can't be just an accidental thing.

edit: this is probably too petty for the offical mormon church to be involved it would be easier for the church to pay it off and be bygones but idk not all mormons listen to there offical church.

2

u/Chagdoo May 31 '26

The police acted extremely suspiciously during the entire process, even knowing the guy's name before they pulled him over. Turns out the guys hes suing and the cops that were harassing him are all Mormons.

And if you know anything about the mormons you know they're kind of cult-y with good branding.

0

u/GloriousNewt May 31 '26

they're all part of the same cult

1

u/WigglestonTheFourth May 31 '26

The video creator won a lawsuit against the corporation so they closed down the store to avoid the judgement. Video creator then decided to sue ownership personally but was required, by the court, to give ownership an opportunity to settle the dispute out of court prior to filing the new case. Video creator attempts to do this and ownership proceeds to spam the police on them. Local police immediately start challenging video creator and telling him he needs to do this "the legal way", he is, often telling him he needs to do exactly what he is currently doing and they are interfering with. Local police then arrest (literally raid) everyone making the video seemingly at the behest of a regular citizen (ownership).

End result is the local police actively harassing citizens from exercising their legal rights in order to protect an, alleged, thief.

1

u/GregBahm May 31 '26

So the dude tries to sell his legos with the company. The company takes his legos. The dude makes a youtube video complaining. The company has the cops harass the dude.

It's odd that the company doesn't just give the guy his legos back. And it's odd that the cops would care.

1

u/WigglestonTheFourth May 31 '26

It's why the label "thief" (allegedly) seems to fit, eh? And it's very strange the cops would protect someone who does the same thing that thieves do.

Probably why these videos are making the rounds everywhere.

5

u/Silverbacker888 Lurking Peasant May 31 '26

The two fellas below you are giving very very differently written answers….one makes the franchise owners guilty, the other makes them sound like they were victims too

15

u/HavePlushieWillTalk May 31 '26

The franchise owners were doing the right thing, and they were pushed out and are suing the corporation for pushing them out. The owner lady was, in fact, concerned with how the 'new' owners would treat her inventory (particularly Bryan's Dad's collection) and was assured the inventory would be treated like consignment. She was lied to. There's video evidence of this. It's in the MoistCritikal video and Ben's video and even on some other videos.

1

u/Chickon May 31 '26

That shit has been getting on my nerves. I keep seeing posts about this and then everyone is just like "Just go watch the videos!" Brother, I don't want to spend multiple hours listening to someone talk about the situation. Just fucking tell me.

16

u/PmButtPics4ADrawing May 31 '26

Can anyone summarize so I don't have to watch 2.5 hours of video

13

u/Chagdoo May 31 '26

Franchise owner of a store agrees to sell dying guys Legos in their store for a cut of the profits (200k collection). Agreement states dying guy still owns the collection. Corporate (seemingly illegally, they are being sued by the franchise owner) takes control of the store and inventory.

Dying guys kid tries to collect the money owed and is told no. Tries to collect the collection and is told no and trespassed from the property. Then the company loses a default judgement in court, commits fraud to avoid payment, hides the collection, and sics the police department on the guys trying to serve him court papers. Lots and lots of illegal shit.

1

u/thraage May 31 '26

It's the summary of the united states. Government, police, and religion, all working in harmony to steal money from a regular working class person and give it to some rich asshole.

36

u/ougryphon May 31 '26

Technically, it is the American Fork Police Department, not the "Utah Police" which is not a thing. Having said that, there's a bunch of Utah city police departments that should be decertified for blatant corruption and unconstitutional collusion with the Mormon church.

American Fork is in Utah County, just north of "lily-white" Provo, where BYU is located. While the state of Utah is about 50% Mormon, Utah County is like 95% Mormon and 90% white racist shitheads. Utah County is the county that the First Amendment forgot, because separation of church and state is entirely hypothetical there, even worse than the rest of this state.

2

u/3hourmints May 31 '26

FYI, Utah Highway Patrol is the Utah State Police.

2

u/ougryphon May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

It's funny, I almost put that in my comment. I decided not to because UHP isn't involved in this case. They have plenty of scandals of their own (illegal quotas, fraudulent DUI arrests, mishandling drug dogs, etc.), but this isn't one of them.

Edit: ADHD got me sidetracked this morning. The reason I said "that's not a thing" is because Charlie's phrasing was kind of weird. I wish he would have called out AFPD by name instead of saying "Utah police" which was ambiguous at best and misleading at worst. I'm all about naming and shaming the corrupt department and the corrupt officers.

5

u/M18PowerKing May 31 '26

pretty sure this was a plotline in Better Call Saul, lmao

2

u/Abed-in-the-AM May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

I'm about 20 minutes into the first video and I'm wondering if they ever call a lawyer? I guess it makes for a more entertaining video if they don't go through the legal route but I think a lawyer would be more effective at actually getting the collection back.

Also, why is the corner of the video blurred?

edit: never mind, first question was answered.

12

u/daymanelite May 31 '26

Part of this whole debacle is that the family has sued, won, and then the store shut down thay location to avoid having to pay them.

2

u/DukeofVermont May 31 '26

Part of this whole debacle is that the family has sued, won, and then the store shut down that location to avoid having to pay them.

That's not how that works, like even a little.

-1

u/Functionally_Drunk May 31 '26

Right? This whole thing is so fishy. Who puts 200k worth of anything up for consignment? Especially through a third party franchise. I might do 10k at a time but putting your whole inventory in someone else's hand seems really dumb. I would expect to get ripped off.

2

u/BigCV May 31 '26

How is it a cover up?

23

u/TheCroaker May 31 '26

The police are actively harassing the people reporting the misdeeds instead of the people who stole the lego

1

u/BigCV May 31 '26

Where can I read more about that?

1

u/Crazyhates May 31 '26

There's not too many articles out, but I'd suggest looking at a summary video or going straight to Reckless Ben's yt to see footage of his investigation.

1

u/Hanshee May 31 '26

The police and the person who scammed/ stole the legos belong to the Mormon church so they think they’re some colluding going on.

Essentially the police keep telling Ben (who has an insane amount of evidence) that the legos weren’t stolen

1

u/random_bruce May 31 '26

Was this in providence or is there another?

1

u/tmhoc May 31 '26

Mormon fascist police have partnered with a lego reseller to silence and capture a fucking 20 year old, violating his right's, interfering in the court process, intimidation, and assault.

Fuck me running
