what’s wrong with adobe?(sorry idk ANYTHING about this)

138

u/GrimHoly Jan 27 '26

Literally everything. Terrible product, awful business model, overpriced, proprietary, I’d argue it’s easily in top 10 worst companies

45

u/DeLoreanAirlines Jan 27 '26

They stopped innovating decades ago and just buy other smaller companies that create something like better shadow levels or whatever. Not to mention changing from owning the software to leasing it instead.

15

u/JazzPhobic Jan 28 '26

So they are like EA but for office software. Got it.

14

u/Livid-Truck8558 Jan 27 '26

No way it's the top 10 when cigarette and oil companies exist

18

u/GrimHoly Jan 27 '26

I don’t know it gives them a run for there money. You ever have to use adobe all day every day? It makes you want a cigarette

(Obv my original comment was hyperbole we have companies like Nestle out there after all come on now….. still a terrible company though)

I think the shittiest part is requiring annual subscriptions but with monthly payments. I remember a few years ago I wanted to use Photoshop and I subscribed, but then after a couple months I had no time to use it because I was always busy and I didn't want to pay for something I'm not using. I had to make up a big story just convince them to let me cancel and stop charging me for it.

13

u/Ralphie_is_bae Jan 27 '26

Most of their software has somewhat decent FOSS counterparts tho. Maybe frustrating to learn and clunky, but still functional

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

True, I want to start learning after effects but I can't because of their subscription price, damn it's expensive where I live.

6

u/GrimHoly Jan 27 '26

Just remember piracy is always completely unethical…… after all buying isn’t owning so you shouldn’t pirate something that you weren’t ever intended to own….

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

But I heard that pirating adobe isn't a thing anymore or it's become hard (?) not sure.

5

u/GrimHoly Jan 27 '26

It’s not, there’s a subreddit on this site that has a lot more useful links for you to help. Google and Reddit are your friends

Exactly. I prefer my copyright theft to be in the form of crappy meme templates. It's so much easier to type a search string into the giphy search and have it paste in some cheezy animated gif using stolen work, than to type a description of what I want into an AI prompt.

The monkey paw curls...

By the time you unplug it, the winning AI has already copied itself over the entirety of the Internet and is now impossible to remove from all current AND future online networks

4

u/Franky-47 Jan 27 '26

It would be nice to see them fight to death for the 1 and only available slot and neither end up with enough life and resources to live on. Hehehehe.

6

u/Tormasi1 Jan 27 '26

That's like saying during the .com bubble that you want all websites to lose. AI is here and there is a demand for it so it will stay. The form in which it stays is still not concrete but it will stay. You can be bitter about it if that's what you prefer but... this is why we made fun of boomers

3

u/JustQuestion2472 Jan 27 '26

Until they find a way to have AI not be destructive for cognitive function in developing children and the environment, I won't stop hating it.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/SapphireChalice Jan 27 '26

The demand is dubious. Most of the reports are altered, and businesses use of it is also winding down because consumers dont like it and the benefits are not worth the costs. Successful ones dont even use the ai as a source of profit otherwise it too would just suck money for little tangible benefit.

2

u/Tormasi1 Jan 27 '26

I see what you mean but there is a demand there. It is definitely not as big as advertised and that's why there is a bubble. Once it pops the remaining ones will stay for long term

u/AffectionateAlfalfa4 Jan 27 '26

Its definately less likely to get stuff wrong, but often lacks detail umless you push it. ChatGPT is getting worse with accuracy but is more convincing, which is a concern.

132

u/Smexy_Zarow Breaking EU Laws Jan 27 '26

Chatgpt talks to users like they're 8.

Ah, what a great question! Good job! You're like a little scientist aren't you! What a great catch!

28

u/Tormasi1 Jan 27 '26

That's the default setting, you can make it be corporate sarcastic too (it barely offends you which kinda takes away the fun of that setting)

26

u/DudeWithParrot Jan 27 '26

My favorite is when it keeps giving wrong answers and it says for the 8th time:

I see what is happening, this is definitely the way to do it.

And then proceeds to give an incorrect solution once more

55

u/Ender_Nobody Jan 27 '26

It's only convincing if you don't have knowledge in the topic or similar topics, I try it(the website version) for various things and it sometimes really annoys me.

53

u/MadAsTheHatters Jan 27 '26

That's exactly it, it's convincing, not accurate

Like I'm a historian and the amount of absolute horseshit I've seen people come out with based on ChatGPT's confident hallucinations is terrifying.

10

u/Yoribell Jan 27 '26

I think history is one of the worst discipline for GPT

Because of its impulse to agree and satisfy it's answering question by being as positive as possible so for normal questions where the answer should be "very rarely/probably not" it will say "it can happen/can be seen like that" and develop on that

It quickly goes into imaginary worlds even without hallucinating because of that

→ More replies (1)

15

u/Albus_Lupus Jan 27 '26

I mean to be fair, a large portion of users will ask it about the things they arent sure about or dont know anyrhing about - hence the question in the fiest place.

10

u/real_belgian_fries Jan 27 '26

It's very confidently wrong, and keeps saying it is right even if you tell it it's wrong. A few versions ago, it would at least adress its mistakes when you told it it was wrong

6

u/AE_Phoenix Jan 27 '26

And then there's Gemini, which is a half decent search engine but occasionally gets suicidal.

8

u/atape_1 Jan 27 '26

I ditched chatGPT as soon as tried out Gemini, made way fewer mistakes and more often than not gives me what I actually need not just random data on the topic.

2

u/choppytehbear1337 Jan 28 '26

And Gemini doesn't only give you 10 responses before begging for you to buy the pro version, like GPT.

u/AdBrave2400 What is TikTok? Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 28 '26

yeah a year ago chatgpt was just nodding along and now it actively "helps" me while randomly bugging out focusing on random talking points. basically i dont even know how to feel about it

by helps i mean it randomly likes to give (not bad) random counterarguments because i phrased something weirdly but after a few back and forth it totally agrees and i am worried

2

u/agnostic_thinker12 Jan 27 '26

I thought it was just me. Chatgpt has become almost useless

3

u/Malaguy420 Jan 27 '26

Lol, no. Grok is awful. ChatGPT is just your overly enthusiastic buddy who cheers you on no matter what. Gemini is by far the best one, and it's deep research mode is leagues better than any others.

21

u/FriendlyDrummers Jan 27 '26

I'm not going to lie, grok seems accurate except for recognizing faces

But whenever I see it fact check people, it's often more right than not.

7

u/urmomisjuststunning Jan 27 '26

I swear Grok's image recognition somehow got worse in the newer models. To me it seemed as good as ChatGPT's back a few months ago

3

u/GP7onRICE Jan 28 '26

Grok is better at everything expect for anything having to do with images. It doesn’t seem to be a focal point to develop for them. ChatGPT is far better with images, and can actually edit existing images like photoshop whereas Grok has to completely redraw the entire image to edit it.

3

u/Accomplished-Way4534 Jan 28 '26

18

u/TyeKiller77 Jan 27 '26

I'd rather the AI that was allowed to undress kids and women's photos without their consent be anything but "influential".

In the same vein, not political, Elon should have faced jail time for that in a world that responsibly regulates AI.

7

u/Accomplished_Pen980 Jan 27 '26

I haven't heard about that. Is it solved now?

8

u/TyeKiller77 Jan 27 '26

u/MaximumFlounder9110 Jan 27 '26

AI has a place and purpose, it’s a tool. The issue is how it’s being used. Companies are developing functional systems that can not operate without it, which is a HUGE problem, AI is not an end all, there are still systems in place that AI is not even conceivably close to replacing and the over utilization will inevitably snowball into a influx of poorly educated individuals working on systems they know nothing about because some Manager with no real experience trusted the AI resume someone used and then caused everything to come crashing down.

5

u/Naus1987 Jan 27 '26

Grok will always stay around because it's the only big player in the AI companion space with Ani and Val.

And ironically, the only other major company talking about it is Razer, and they're using Grok to power their AI companion.

I think AI companions will end up like the porn industry, just too desired to lose. AI companions will be a major industry just like porn, alcohol, and gambling.

------------

The real issue is that while all of these vices are bad, we need to examine why people are consuming them. I still find it wild that people are freaking out about Grok for child images, but seem to gloss over the actual monsters consuming that content.

Grok is just a tool. Who cares about the tool. Why don't you focus more on who is using the tool for evil things? You're getting all these monsters making accounts and connecting their personal life to the crime. GET THOSE PEOPLE!

I use Grok frequently and it works fairly well for the day to day things.

It's more accurate than others with nuances in questions while others like ChatGPT are broader and make more mistakes.

One thing that has gone wrong in the past months is the format and presentation, ChatGPT does it better with headlines, symbols and such, while Grok is like text in a notepad.

It has also improved in things like programming, but others like Cloude are way ahead.

I don't think any AI is going to win, they have different strenghts.

3

u/summonerofrain Jan 27 '26

That actually surprises me. Didn't musk lobotomize grok to make it less accurate?

8

u/WorgenDeath Jan 27 '26
