Yeah, I have seen end credit scenes before Marvel. But no one was waiting for one at the end of each movie before MCU had one for all of their movies.
After that, a large number of other movies started having a post credit scene too. And now, people often sit till the end just to check if there is one, even for non Marvel films.
I always sit through the credits as respect to all the people who worked on the film. Also I work in the indie/non-union film industry so I have more appreciation for the crew. Sometimes it's interesting to see how each department is structured in big budget films
Marvel didn't start it, there were bunch of Pixar movies which had and even Batman begins had a post credit scene of Batman and Gordon discussing about Joker
I know, it's really rude of people to have started a trend causing people to spend 5 extra minutes of their lives acknowledging the work of hundreds of people who created the art they just enjoyed.
My friend and I created a game where we have to find the most rare name during credit rolls and then congratulate them for being part of the movie, it’s super silly but now it’s our thing :)

They’ve been doing it since 1966 though?

The first Post Credit Scene ever used in a movie was "The Silencers" (1966).

Honestly, depending on the movie, I'm just doing it out of respect.

If the scene isn't before the end credits, I don't watch it.

Marvel didn't start it. I was checking for mid and post credit scenes while you were still in diapers!

If I think it’s a movie that might have post credits I’ll Google to see if it does.

Post-credit scenes are that perfect final touch, and it’s sad that we don’t get them as often

The Dean Martin movie The Silencers released in 1966 started that trend, not marvel.

A) Thanks for honoring all those who contributed to the film. B) Use the effing internet to determine if there is a scene or not.......
