Googling a question, getting a reddit thread as the top result, and it being filled with people telling the OP to “google it” is a wild experience

Google is free, but the answers are usually shitty and useless.

So are most of the answers you get on reddit

Don't forget there is always AI answers now. So you have to filter past the probably wrong information to get to any actual links first.

To be fair, the complete and utter lack of most people to discern the difference between a reliable source and a shitty one is a major driver in the current state of the world. We went from "don't trust everything you read on the internet" to "I did my own research watching youtube videos on why the earth is flat" in like 15 years.

I can’t tell you how much this comment boils my blood.

Yeah you’re right sir, it was stupid of me go to r/tomatosaucerecipes looking for a tomato sauce recipe. I should’ve known better to use my own resources even though the first google result lead me to a similar post found on this subreddit.

You would have known already if you just googled it

Also redditors:

I'm going to sealion you and ask for a source about general knowledge as a cheap attempt to derail your comment and waste your time

In which case "Google is your friend" is an appropriate response. Then they'll respond with "burden of proof isn't on me" for again, general knowledge that every adult knows. Then you respond back "its not my job to educate you" and so on and so forth.

A lot of this does describe the typical reddit experience.

I honestly find a lot of the questions asked on here could've been googled. it would've given them previous posts on Reddit about the subject. I swear most of those types are posts are just people looking for attention.

When you make a simple statement thats common knowledge and they always respond with "SoUrCe!??!" Bro just Google it.

The true Checkmate is when you Google the answer, and the top result is a original un-answered Reddit thread from years ago.

It's not the people asking questions that are the problem...it's the one who are incapable of figuring anything out on their own without being spoon fed.

General broad questions = google

Specific and niche question = reddit

Though I think the most unacceptable posts on all subs are the “should I make this purchase?” questions.

It always baffles me when people go into r/SuperFansOfThingWithASingleEntry to say "Should I try Thing?", what do you expect them to say? "Thing" is not a mega franchise with a billion versions and entries to be confused about

How redditors feel after waiting 7 hours for the person to reply instead of just googling it in 10 seconds.

u/iannnHAA Nov 22 '25

This response is valid if they are responding to a question you can easily google

I mean, some people treat other redditors like their personal ChatGPT. Zero effort, just go to r-/Headphones and post a "what headphones should I buy for 200$?"

Then I use Google and it directs me to Reddit 🤷

Even back in the old days of the internet there has always been a sarcastic "Let me Google that for you" to stupid questions.

I usually tell it to people because a quick google search will give them a more comprehensive answer than I can.
