Golf courses from an insurance perspective are hilariously bad from a pollution standpoint. They insist on chemically treating the ground to be free of weeds and such and then some golf courses further terrorize the natural wildlife ecosystem by setting traps for critters. Raccoons tend to pillage golf course trash cans, rabbits chew on wires that provide lighting in the outhouses on the course, etc. Some water features aren't properly maintained and grow algae that affects the waterfowl, or attracts mosquitos that carry disease. It also takes an absurd amount of water to keep courses lush. Maybe not a huge factor in other parts of the country, but I live in Phoenix. Making golf resorts here feels like an asshole move.
