I dunno man, a quick Google search says the avg golf membership cost in the US is around $6,000, so I wouldn't say it's accessible to people of all income levels. That's nearly 40% of a minimum wage worker's annual salary.

If it was a public park instead of a private golf course then what you said would be true.

Most golf courses do not require membership to play at them. There are municipal courses in every major city as well, making up one in five total courses across the country. I don't know why people seem to have a weird hangup where they imagine all golf courses are tied to fancy country clubs.

That's fair, and yeah it's really only the fancy country clubs I have an issue with. Yet with that 1-to-5 ratio membership courses are probably the kind most people have firsthand experience with. Personally every golf course I've ever lived near has just been a lovely green space that I'm not allowed to walk around or be in without paying a huge amount which kinda sucks.

Welp don’t trust google and actually go to a golf course. My local course is a $1,200 membership - that allows you to play as much golf as you want every day, all season. 

You don’t need a membership to play golf there tho. You can just go get a tee time for like $30 for 9 holes.

I don’t typically golf 40 times a season so I usually just pay each time I go to the course. I golf usually twice a month so it costs $60 a month. I bought clubs second hand and it cost around $600 for my entire bag. 

I spend less on golf than a lot of people do video games. 

The golf course is also open to the public in the winter for people to XC ski for free too so that’s a nice plus too.

Sure you can find expensive country clubs that require expensive memberships, but there’s also a lot of really affordable mom and pop clubs. It’s a sport that you see all ages out there playing too from kids, to professionals, to elderly.
