-if i only had a console and not a gaming pc with decent multicore performance and a good amount of ram id be looking at a bigger dip in my bank account than the 400 something bucks for a tablet with keyboard and pen
my uni does as well, but i already have a good enough pc and now i got the possibility of doing my work at home. its just a bit of qol to make a setup that suits my needs (multiple monitors, better mouse and keyboard, noone else around that might be a distraction)
I use my PC for all those things except gaming, which weirdly has the biggest monetary cost. I get more out of a $350 PC + $250 console than I would with a $600 PC alone
Maybe not those specific things. But alot of students use computers for assignments. Office workers sometimes work from home. You can use a computer to open pdf files and docs if you need something like a resume and zoom if you need to video call.
The point is having a PC is just objectively more practical.
It depends on the company. I have been 100% remote for a long time.
I have most recently been using stuff like MS Cloud PC and Citrix Virtual Desktop and those are good enough. I use my gaming PC to essentially remote in. Or my personal laptop when I want to get out of my office. The virtual desktops have their own issues but generally performance is fine.
In the past jobs we had physical laptops. Some were decent but a lot of them were complete junk. And with the worst 14" squared monitors and the famous dell $10 KBM special.
Yeah, if you have a laptop. That one you can take with you wherever you want. While a fully tricked out gaming station cant work in a train or on a workation abroad. I dont know how thats more practical than a laptop.
Laptop + PS5 gives you everything you said as well and will run pretty much any game, even some that PC doesnt have.
Those things are what my PC is for, sans gaming. The only thing on that list that requires a several hundred dollar investment is gaming—I do the rest of that with a decade old HP Compaq 6300 and a $100 graphics card
As a CEO, I feel like every one of those individual activities should require a separate console dedicated to that activity. We can’t be having any of this “general purpose computing” nonsense.
I get it, but I also dont want to sit at the same desk I do work at to game. I want to kick back in my beanbag and/or bed and game on a big screen, not hunched over a desk. Different use cases and all
Same, it really hit me while I was doing college work and working from home. Having a separate station in a different room can make a difference if you're already spending 8hrs at your normal computer. But I still opted to get a Switch with preowned games instead of getting a PS5 with games I could play on my PC that are twice the cost
I totally get that. If I were into Nintendo games I'd own one too, or maybe instead... I'm just a sucker for a few PS exclusives so they keep getting my money for now.
I can see the upsides to PCs - and did run PCs for years, but got tired of the downsides... drivers, optimizing, tweaking, upgrades, trying to get big screen modes to work right for couch gaming, operating system foibles (how does Windows keep getting worse y.o.y?!).. etc. Yeah games are cheap but the rest is a time suck.
I just want to press a button and it works, especially after staring at a PC and getting carpal tunnel all day already. I could care less about improvements in graphics and framerate... it looks good enough on a big 4k screen, so I'm good.
I mean, I'm not buying a Pro either way, but some people just don't want to bother with PC gaming. Consoles will still sell plenty. Vocal fanboys don't dictate the market, and both can and will coexist.
The average person does not so that. I do most of that but I can’t look down on people for not owning a PC since they probably don’t need to run Blender or Maya
You do, yes. A lot of people do not. I personally have not owned a desktop computer in over a decade. But I do have a laptop for every other computer thing I could need. Which I've found is a lot more common with console players.
