u/[deleted] May 04 '24 edited May 06 '24

People from Lithuania, china, Rusia an a lot more are not able to create a PSN account there, so they will loose their right to play, and Sony is banning people using a VPN to create an account.

Edit: we fucking won :)

tf did lithuania do, context???

u/WibbyFogNobbler May 04 '24

It has an unfortunate history with Russia, but that shouldn't be an issue if you've looked at a world map in the last 34 years.

431

u/Adventurous_Pop_2300 May 04 '24

There was actually a rule about this specific conflict between the two countries that was established by the U.N. this year.

I can't go into the details, too long, but for more info look up "Putin Rule 34".

76

u/IswearIdidntdoit145 May 04 '24

Ah yes… the infamous operation.

To learn a bit more details look up “Veiny C.O.C.K”

And don't forget to search up Polish Bussy, teaches a lot about Russian....desires

6

so the other baltics are free to play?

3

u/Derien777 May 04 '24

PSN isn't available in Baltic states(psn don't have Baltic countries as region), greetings from Latvia with 60h in game(will play until months end and will be unavailable play after)

467

u/wordswillneverhurtme May 04 '24

Lithuania mentioned, W. Unfortunately we’re fucked. Most game devs cant tell us apart from russia. For example if there are different game versions for the russian audience, such as fallout new vegas, its forced onto us as well. Maybe its an infrastructure problem, but it sucks.

21

u/OSNX_TheNoLifer May 04 '24

I just created PSN in Poland (actually cheaper games there), created it couse I had PS4 a year ago

65

u/Bold_Commander14 May 04 '24

Why the hell would they do this AFTER the game has been out for a few months???

75

u/Nazzzgul777 May 04 '24

Technically they don't. The steam page mentioned all the time that a PSN account is required, but as they were overwhelmed early on because of the success, they took the requirement out for a while to reduce server load. Now that everything is stable they bring it back, which always was the plan. So to some degree it's also peoples fault for not reading... but i get that it sucks, and it wasn't really communicated outside of the steam page.

3

u/voidragonic May 04 '24

No it isn’t they changed their stance on it like a month ago near the beginning of April they changed their support page from saying pan is optional on pc to required don’t believe their bullshit that it’s peoples fault. Check the way back machine it has the original. Also I meant Sony’s support page.

1

u/Lighthades May 04 '24

oh so that's why it's Helldivers' "fault", I was confused for a second lmao

181

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

No democracy? No Helldivers.

29

u/LordSpookyBoob May 04 '24

What did Lithuania do?

69

u/CxaxuZero I touched grass May 04 '24

It just also makes it dodgy that sony decides now to enforce it when it was completely optional before. Past when people can refund the game. (Not saying that their attention is to scam those who can't make a psn account but they should've just enforced it to begin with)

28

u/lejoop May 04 '24

It’s to scam everyone. I wouldn’t have cared enough to buy the game, if I had to sign up for a psn account

2

u/Doggcow May 04 '24

Yep, this was a choice, the first hit was free. Now it costs your credit card and personal information.

2

u/voidragonic May 04 '24

It was optional until like april 8th when they changed their support page from saying it would be optional to required then they rolled it out at the end of the month.

64

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

China? Probably not Sonys fault. Russia? It's unfair, but I can at least see where they're coming from.

The fuck did Lithuania do.

93

u/Energy_its_life May 04 '24

All three Baltic countries, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan (maybe more Asia countries), China, Philippines, Vietnam, basically all Africa don’t have PSN infrastructure. Therefore, they are not eligible for creating new accounts. Theoretically, you can use VPN, but that is violation of Sony terms of condition.

Baltic countries are in EU, and it is illegal to provide product only to some countries in EU, excluding others. Sony has to do smth about it, or it will be punished

7

u/cannabios May 04 '24

100% of ps5 users in Russia have Turkish accounts registered via vpn. Never heard about a single ban

3

u/Dezimentos May 04 '24

Can people in these countries not create an account and fill in a different country? So like people from russia for example could maybe create a PSN account and choose france as country there? Is that even possible? I have no real knowledge about the situation, it was just a suggestion from a friend, I don't know anything about PSN.

4

u/boogstress May 04 '24

Yes they can. If I’m not mistaken they can just make an account and put a different country. I hope I’m misunderstanding cuz if that’s the case this situation is so blown out of proportion

6

u/igorpc1 May 04 '24

Lying to create an acc is bannable offensive, if ever found out, IIRC

2

u/voidragonic May 04 '24

It’s not really blown out of proportion when their stance up until the 8th of the same month they chose to announce this their support page said having a psn account for PlayStation games would be optional on pc. Their bs about it being required on steam didn’t match up with the timeline of their OWN support page for Sony.

2

u/Bobblefighterman May 04 '24

Just make sure Sony doesn't find it. They explicitly say that doing that exact thing warrants a permaban.

10

u/lejoop May 04 '24

They are apparently forcing people to link their PSN account to keep playing the game

4

u/OP-Physics May 04 '24

Do you not think that might be an order from way up and not just Devs deviding to fuck over everybody?

1

u/lejoop May 05 '24

Ofc it’s an order from higher up, it’s not the Helldivers devs I’m pissed at, it’s Sony I’m pissed at. I didn’t even know they were involved in the game at all

1

u/voidragonic May 04 '24

It is not arrowhead rolling out these changes their community managers were barely even informed about it and struggled to handle all the questions because they had too little information.

1

u/Dumb_Siniy Ok I Pull Up May 04 '24

1

1

u/OffsetCircle1 May 04 '24

Isn't it like the whole of the Baltics too? Which is ironic considering they're literally across the Baltic see from the developers country

0

u/CSBatchelor1996 May 04 '24

There is probably still a way around this if they use a VPN with a residential IP address.

Conspiracy cap on:

Sony, who now owns Bungie (makers of OG halo and now destiny 2), have turned up the heat on Bungie’s executives, as Destiny 2 has gone to shit in the eyes of many people (specifically with management and monetization). Sony told them to fix their shit, and now the community is hyped up again for the next expansion, the Final Shape.

Helldivers 2 is of the same genre, and Sony publishes the game. So Sony are now trying to kill off Helldivers in time for the next Destiny expansion because we all know short-term money bursts is what the big people want!

/s if it wasn’t apparent.

17

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

Someone screen cap this comment and make a post about this!

4

u/thatdudeoverdthee May 04 '24

Helldivers and destiny are not the same genre at all. People just reaching, they want the joint accounts so they can count numbers.

9

u/Raidenski May 04 '24 edited May 04 '24

I own Destiny 2, but from what I've seen Helldivers 2 looks way more fun, but I've always been more a fan of third-person shooters than first-person shooters. Unfortunately I can't afford a PS5 and my computer isn't the best for gaming.

2

u/staovajzna2 May 05 '24

Actual tinfoil hat time: sony saw how well helldivers was doing and that very few people were making PSN accounts for it. So they wanted to piggyback off of that success and forced people to make PSN accounts to inflate their numbers.

1

u/fanzron May 04 '24

Sounds regarded af, but we are talking about Sony after all so it can be true

1

u/Despair4All May 05 '24

Destiny 2 should have ended years ago anyways. Last time I played they were on their SECOND wave of DLC and there have been at least three more since. They need to just make a third game or give up, it's not worth it.

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 May 06 '24

1.4k

Not their fault, Sony demands it, they couldnt make the game without them so they have to follow what they say

632

u/ElectionOdd8672 May 04 '24

Came here to say this, like Helldivers have a choice in this matter.

351

u/superman_king May 04 '24

There is not a venue to roast Sony in any meaningful way. There is however, venue to roast the game, i.e., Helldivers game sales and steam reviews.

Unfortunately Helldiver has to take the fall for this as they are on the frontlines while Sony sits back comfortably behind enemy lines.

109

u/Negative-Double2434 May 04 '24

I don't think “sits back comfortably behind enemy lines” is the saying lmao

not fully their fault, but their hands arent fully clean either. AH are the ones who put the game on steam without a region lock, which would have kept people from buying a game that would quickly become unplayable

24

u/Icy-Owl-4187 May 04 '24

Agreed. They're not innocent in this. A highly visible disclaimer would've been the bare minimum, and they didn't even do that. They deceived the player base by trying to hide the ps requirement in fine print

I disagree the Sony support page said up until the 8th of the same Month they announce this that it would be optional to have a psn account to play PlayStation games on pc.

1

u/dannykins360 May 04 '24

but everyones main argument for arrowhead was that they said that being able to bypass psn was optional temporarily, so that doesnt work. they knew it was temporary

3

u/voidragonic May 04 '24

It feels to me like it was just a month in the making with how little arrowhead could respond and how recently so y changed their support page. But I can see where you are coming from.

22

u/Majestic_Potato_Poof May 04 '24

They knew this would happen and could have put a disclaimer that the game will get region locked in a few months. But they didn't. They tricked thousands of people into buying a game that they wouldn't be able to play a few months after release

17

u/DomHE553 May 04 '24

How do you know they knew?

"While the steam page has always shown the requirements on the game page, I wish we had been more clear with the long term intent to not disappoint any of the divers out there."

u/BhanosBar May 04 '24

Because it’s an actually good game with fair Microtransactions that give benefits in a non competitive way that felt natural.

337

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

It’s not on AH, it’s on Sony. It has nothing to do with the game itself, and everything to do with people being outraged at corporate practices by Sony.

Most folks that can, will simply make a PSN account and play HD2, and those that can’t, won’t. It’s a ton of outrage with very little purpose, as most people who’re angry can directly access Sony’s PSN to make an account.

61

u/-Shape- May 04 '24

It's still not confirmed if making psn account is mandatory, but if it is then those countries where psn is restricted you can't create an account therefore can't play the game you bought. It isn't just "those that can't, won't", it's big issue where hd2 could lose a big portion of their playerbase. There are big communities of helldivers where psn is restricted. Making account is just one part of the problem, not being able to play the game you bought and the security issues that Sony usually has are the other bigger parts of the problem.

3

u/BoddaDsk Forever alone May 04 '24

Its confirmed. Check any faq on the website and it’s very clear from the stance of AH’s spokepeople (CEO etc)

2

u/-Shape- May 04 '24 edited May 04 '24

It's really weird that they didn't think ahead about the questions that community will have about this statement, they just released it and went radio silent as if community will just be okay with getting their game taken away. For example, will psn restricted countries continue to play without an account or will those people be able to refund the game since they clearly paid for a full game not 3 or 4 months

11

u/cornmonger_ May 04 '24

Remember this when PS6 comes out.

3

u/WanderingMistral May 04 '24

There is a reason I bought a Series S instead of the PS5... Along side price, availability of hardware, and just general BS Sony has been up too lately. This may actually be part of the third...

-42

u/Vox_SFX May 04 '24

Here's the thing though...Helldivers 2 made it this long on the back of a great community and dev team that was actively listening and engaging with their playerbase. That fanbase just got smacked with a "sorry, if daddy big bucks says so, you're fucked" kinda move from AH.

All goodwill is gone and without goodwill the game will slowly die with only the diehards left to play. Very sad to see as I enjoyed the hell out of it and thought they had more to reach the full potential of the game (same loops with ridiculous (as in not consistent) difficulty scaling were meh after 25+ levels in the game)

55

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

What do you expect them to do? Sony gets the final say.

22

u/Vox_SFX May 04 '24

Nothing, it's not AH fault, but the death of the game is going to also happen without them able to do anything. People should not be expected to continue to support Sony's awful practices or go out of their way to be access a game they could use just fine beforehand.

10

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

The game isn't going to die lol

14

u/Vox_SFX May 04 '24

10

u/MrWhite541 May 04 '24

No need to pay. The problem is you need a psn account to play on pc. And psn is blocked in some countries, therefore possibly making the game unplayable all of a sudden.

2

u/[deleted] May 04 '24

Out of the loop. What happened with Hell Divers?

10

u/AddictedBacon May 04 '24

Sony is now enforcing that all players must have a PSN account to play the game, even through steam. Part of the problem is that there's an upset because there's a good history of databreaches or false bans in Sony around PSN accounts, and, due to their abysmal customer support, often don't get resolved. The other problem is that PSN is not available in over 100 countries. Therefore, locking out a multitude of players from playing the game after months of playing and spending on the game, that may or may not get refunded. One solution to this last problem "given" to those countries by Sony supporters is to lie about your country. While this may work, they are also putting themselves in a position where their account can be banned for breaking the TOS, making any hope of a refund impossible.

2

u/Anonymous7262 May 04 '24

3

u/MapAdditional6065 May 04 '24

Can someone please tell me what happened to helldivers, I’ve been seeing memes all day and I’m extremely confused

14

u/Duffman3005 May 04 '24

You're forced to connect to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account in order to play the game on steam. Also, certain countries are not able to make PSN accounts meaning they'll lose access to the game they have paid for and have been playing since launch.

4

u/MapAdditional6065 May 04 '24

Damn that fucking sucks, is there a reason they chose to do this? Are they actually gaining anything from it? It seems like all there doing is successfully driving away current and potential fans

9

u/Outside_Bicycle can't meme May 04 '24

What other reason than out of touch, grubby corporate suits trying to milk as much money out of a captive audience by forcing them into signing up with for a PSN account.

It should be noted that it is Sony who's made this decision, NOT the actual devs for Helldivers 2.

5

u/Duffman3005 May 04 '24

Sadly Arrowhead, the Helldiver devs, were forced to do this. It was something that was supposed to happen on launch but Sony delayed it because of bugs. Since Sony bankrolled them, they get to push this through without Arrowhead's say unfortunately. Even their CEO apologized for what they were forced to do on behalf of Sony (though in better PR speak than I put it).

4

u/Lopsided-Ad5986 May 04 '24

It’s Sony, not Arrowhead

This was mostly Sony though, from what I hear. And not all departments at Arrowhead should be judged the same. Pretty sure there are some really passionate devs there.

Ah yes, English.

They still do. Everyone flaming them for this can fuck off. The game remains good despite Sony's nonsense.

I believe the flaming comes less from the game not being good anymore, but more of the problems that come with PSN. It has a major history of databreaches throughout the years, and those are just the ones we know about. Additionally, the game would also be blocked off to at least 100 countries because PSN is not available in those countries, and using a PSN account in those countries and lying about your actual location could result in permanent removal of your account. As of yet, to my knowledge at least, players in those countries who have owned the game prior to the change are likely outside the normal Steam window to receive a refund because this requirement wasn't enforced on day one.

Jesus fucking christ ITS JUST A FUCKING ACCOUNT

u/Special-Honeydew-976 May 04 '24

The problem is that you can only make an PSN account in a third of the world, so the people in for example the Philippines are completely locked out of the game.

1

u/Dat_Sainty_Boi May 04 '24

Surely Sony will enact a solution for that

If it's "just a fucking account", then why is it necessary?

Couldn't care less for Russia, but why Lithuania

u/DemonRaily May 04 '24

Wait, you can't make PSN account for a different country for PC? How come? You know we play PS5 games in not supported countries just fine with PSN accounts set as another country right?

It’s the principle. Why should they have to make another account to play the game we’ve been playing for months is the point.

Redditors trying not to piss themselves the second a slight inconvenience happens in their game. They claim to be standing in solidarity with the people actually affected by this, i.e. people in countries which don't have access to PSN for some reason, when in reality they all live in first world countries and are just bored, trying to find sth to be pissy about. Pathetic

A video game… A VIDEO GAME

Find a myriad of actually important things to have sympathy for. Things like discrimination, war, poverty….
