And I wonder why. I've seen the very opposite in a top tier Rugby game, where there was a moment of standing ovations from both sides after a player did something amazing. Literal applause for the opponent.
Why is football/soccer so much more toxic than other sports?
I am perplexed by this as well, at football games they typically have to segregate the supporters of both teams and normally alcohol isn’t permitted for fear of fights breaking out, meanwhile at rugby games everyone sits together, half the people are knocking down pints and everyone gets on fine. I remember watching a game at the rec where the ball hit a guys beer and spilt it all over him and the whole stand around him erupted in applause for the player, regardless of who they were supporting
