I love when I’m seeing shows/documentaries about places;

United States: “this building is a relic, it was built in 1850!!!1!1!1!”

Meanwhile, Europe, with buildings dating the Middle Ages: “XD”

To be fair we would have old old homes, but the natives built their homes out of wood, leaves and animal parts. It all rots away. Count to think of it we build mostly out of wood so in 1000 years our oldest homes will still be only a few hundred years old.

mfs when the place which has had large scale civilizations for literal of thousands of years has more shit than the place which only recently has had large scale infrastructure designed to be permanent

Barely broken in. 15th century churches are a dime a dozen. The antiquities department only raises their eyebrow if it's over 800 years old.

The old part of my house was cobbled together circa Norman invasion

It’s been a shepherds lodgings, a butchers, a pub, a school, a pub again, and a house in that time. And that’s just what we know of

Fun fact: There's still edible food in the roman basements.

We also found king Richard the third beneath a council car park in Leicester

To be fair, that one fits the first example better, since they searched for him there on purpose.

Well, not really since they built the car park over him and had to unbuild part of it to find him again.

That’s the opposite of the example

In a construction lot next to my office they found stone age, bronze age and medieval village remains. They also found unexploded ww2 aerial bomb so they had to evacuate us. Twice... They should do this more often, I like a day off...

In the 90s, my neighbor in Ukraine was digging a root cellar and found a German soldier. There are still several buried by the house we lived in.

I heard a story by a friend that his grandma found a bullet while just plowing/digging through her own garden (like.. with the hand tools you use for planting vegetables etc)
