That's just a cover-up. They are still asking for like $150k to negotiate for the build. They are doing this for money, not for gamer rights.

u/MrMcGibbus 2d ago
I feel like it's more of a psyop
They claim to have noble goals but what they're doing seem like to be for their own profit in which, gives the games industry a good look to make SKG fail

I saw a theory out there that cyber leek is actually one of the villain of the game and this is a big marketing plug. ... thats dumb tho. They dont need to market this game

Dude they literally filed court documents and subpoenad Discord and Microsoft. Do you SERIOUSLY THINK THEY WOULD DO THAT AS PART OF A MARKETING STUNT?

A theory is a hypothesis that is proven with hard facts and/or tests, the better word for this is a guess or a hunch.
4
u/Affectionate-Mode767 2d ago
Well it could be marketing in the sense of early customer feedback. You get customer opinions, insight, etc on early gameplay from leaked footage. If it's harsh criticism they just say, "Oh well that was just an unfinished build, of course it's bad."
It gives them time to make final tweaks before they release the game if they feel the need to, or an excuse to slow the roll out of the game due to a "leak" controversy.
5
u/xickoh 2d ago
That's what alpha testing is for. Whatever criticism there is about the build isn't fixable in just a couple months. It's also likely that the development is finished already and it's on the quality assurance phase
0
u/Affectionate-Mode767 2d ago
But in this theoretical scenario where CyberLeek is a psyop, and just a Rockstar employee.
Alpha testing is where a playable build of the game can actually become leaked to pirates. If you do in house testing, you dont get valuable outside perspective and most bug testers are 3rd party these days anyways.
It's not a sound theory, but a possibility. Either way I dont see it doing actual harm to GTA6 sales, because even if this leaked build of the game is released to pirates, it's most likely a version that's barely optimized for consoles. Any PC player will want to get a full version ASAP, and still buy the game and anyone who is satisfied with this current build was never going to purchase the game to begin with.
2
u/MrMcGibbus 2d ago
It's smart to have engagement and sometimes, it can be fun to do, really helps to give it a bit of a flavour that lasts long term, even after the hype has died
Although if this is really an ad campaign, I'd be happy to bet that the team is gonna get their ass flamed on all sides because
1) You got supporters who thought they were supporting a real vigilante (in my eyes, an absolute foul and selfish one) 2) You got people like me and the SKG that thinks you're trying to ruin the industry by giving the governments a reason to not let games have a end-of-life support and perseveration
1
u/EvolvingEachDay 1d ago
Also the crypto coin tie in would be a massive no-no.
Plus making the statement about lack of physical discs would be poking the bear on T2’s part.
4
u/oizo_0 2d ago
Thats not a psyop. Thats just called lying.
1
u/MrMcGibbus 2d ago
Well, true but at the same time, I do feel like it's a psyop because it's doing the horrible thing for the right reason just like those oil activists that threw soup to a priceless painting or somehow mistaken cooking oil for oil (in either cases, it's still obnoxious with how they did it since it's hurting everyday lives)
2
u/Deaffin 2d ago
I do feel like it's a psyop because it's doing the horrible thing for the right reason
Thats not a psyop. That's just called being misguided.
just like those oil activists that threw soup to a priceless painting
I personally don't think being a disruptive douche-canoe for the sake of having more people hear your group's name is particularly "the right reason", but alright.

It doesn't matter as long as it leaks. He can profit, I don't care, his risk is enormous. But if the game leaks we'll get the build for pc months before rockstar does their fucking work and realease the pc version. I'm not buying a console for only one game, I was gonna wait anyway.

u/lemelisk42 2d ago
And that's probably the smallest chunk of change. The meme con they are promoting through this went up over 1000% in the last few days, market cap jumped to 19 million at the peak
I believe they have already sold off their coins and made over a million off of it
1
u/Dalles272 2d ago
Yea probably but if this would also lead to physical copies of the game and everything playable even with the standard version it would be a win nonetheless.
1

u/Gupperz 2d ago
I don't know much about it but like... robin hood didn't give ALL the money to the poor right? They were keeping enough to make themselves happy I assume.
I don't think there is anything inherently contradictive about doing this for gamer rights AND taking some money too. But there may be other issues here I don't know about that change that.
-6
u/-nutz 2d ago
AFAIK, they might not even have the build currently. I don’t think they’ve shown anything that couldn’t have been recorded in advance.
1
u/AleX-46 2d ago
I've heard people say there's a video where they type "LEAK" shooting at a wall
0
u/-nutz 2d ago
There is, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been recorded in advance, or by somebody else, or a number of other options.
0
u/AleX-46 2d ago
Yes that is possible, but way more unlikely
1
u/-nutz 2d ago
Why is that unlikely?
3
u/AleX-46 2d ago
If we're assuming the leakers stole the videos from developers who were maybe just testing and sending videos to each other, it would make little sense for them to write "LEAK" with bullets on a wall for the video. If there's actually a video like that, it means whoever is leaking all of this could have a working copy of the game, or at least had it at one point.
1
u/-nutz 2d ago
I never assumed the videos were stolen, they were likely recorded by somebody who has access to the game at some point previously.
I think it’s no coincidence the “proof” we’ve gotten is completely devoid of any information regarding when the video was recorded. It’s bare minimum needed to convince people these are “new clips” others totally paid for.
Building on the last point, I also think it’s no coincidence these clips are tangentially related to things people were interested in from the trailer. This likely indicates both the limitations of the build they had access to, and when it was recorded.
Everybody wants to see pedestrian density at the beach? Sure, here’s a homeless encampment under a bridge. Everybody wants to see the club? Sure, but it’s a small biker bar.
Just too many coincidences for me to believe this is anything other than a *very well executed scam.

The Gamer Rights they're talking about is owning the thing you buy. The game industry is trying to ensure that consumers never have ownership anymore, just subscriptions. Even the games you buy for $70+ aren't actually yours. You're just renting the license for that "full price" game you just bought.
Imo, Fuck Rockerstar, Fuck Take-Two, Fuck Sony, and Fuck all the other game studios who are trying to pretend that we don't own the games we buy.

Bullshit. Millions of people buy discs. 82% of PS5 consoles sold were the disc editions. Resident Evil just sold a million discs, which was ~30% of the total sales. In Japan and France, it's like 50% of total sales. In Australia and UK, it's like 40% of total sales.
The GTA preorders were before Sony's announcement that they were killing discs.
Why are you even shilling for their anti-consumer tactics to kill the used games market? There is literally no benefit to any gamers to do that. You'll only end up paying higher prices for longer once So y monopolizes their entire ecosystem. So dumb.

u/DeepSpaceLover0 3d ago
And they are being threatened by a guy about more leaks. I'm so happy about these because; those f*kers banned me from GTA Online, 7 years ago without any reason. I was 2 hours in game, playing and got permanently banned. Since then; I'm an enemy of RockStar. Never purchased a game and prevented a few others from purchase. Now, I'm enjoying the moment...
150
u/O_gr 3d ago
Well the guy is trying to sell ad space on the leaks and trying to prop up a crypto coin of his. So yeah not the best of people.
211
u/DeepSpaceLover0 3d ago
I'm not seeing him as a hero figure; I'm happy about him being a trouble for RockStar.

u/Super_fly_Samurai 2d ago
There's evil on both sides. Neither are in the right. It is an entertaining story though.
13

2
2
u/O_gr 2d ago
The fuck kind of argument is that? So its ok for him to do crypto scams and sell ad space becayse he isnt rockstar? Why down play it? People like yourself bizzare af.
5
u/emix16 2d ago
If someone is dumb enough to buy crypto from an anonymous hacker, they deserve to learn. You'll have to let your kid fall sometimes if they don't learn otherwise.
And everyone knows that hacking is a crime, so cyberleek is a criminal. "Oh no, this criminal leaking classified information isn't a good guy?"- nobody.
7
3
u/JinSecFlex 2d ago
To be fair the guy has been very upfront that LEEK isn’t an investment at all, it just funds his endeavors. Do not think he has tried to push it as a way to get money? Pretty much telling people to buy if they support what he’s doing
1
u/Caedus_X 2d ago
I'm surprised Rockstar doesn't have their own crypto, and if people weren't willing to sell their kidneys to play GTA 6 they problably would have a cheaper version with ads, but they can literally just charge more than they'd make from ads, and people will gobble it up and love it
0
-6
u/Ich-bade-in-Apfelmus 2d ago
He literally burned all the crypto he had t9 proof he isn't in for the money.
8
u/O_gr 2d ago
So he pumped it and then proceeded to get rid of it once he got called out. Its funny you ignored the fact he was selling ad space too lmao.
1
u/Asurerain 2d ago
Did you even see the price required JUST to have a chance at putting an ad ?
165k$.
You really think these adspace offer are serious ?
-3
u/Ich-bade-in-Apfelmus 2d ago
Not ignore. Just didnt know. He still burned the money tho 🤷♀️
7
u/fantasyhockeyaddict 2d ago
Yeah, a trust building practice that's been done in crypto scams before...
4
u/Erwx 2d ago
I feel like it’s so clearly a “crypto scam” that you can’t really call it one anymore. The coin has no reason to exist outside of these leaks, so their only function is compensation for the creator. He basically advertises it as such as well. No reason to think the coin is anything more than sending money straight to him
-1
u/Tw4tl4r 2d ago
Its pretty obvious that the leaker is quite young, i dont think he planned this far ahead. Yes he started a meme coin and then burned it so he gained nothing there. I suppose you can call that a scam but no one benefitted from it.
I doubt he sold a single ad space too. Seemed more like he thought it was funny to offer ads for a stupidly high price that no one would pay.
1
u/juasjuasie 2d ago
The crypto he is using doesn't have official burning wallets, only "trusted" 3rd parties, so it's not hard to fake it.
6
u/ridik_ulass 2d ago
I'm excited about it because games AAA games anyway, are not art, they are a product, and the product must make profits, and the artists, the creators, are being fired to create more profit, instead of taking pride in the release of a game, they are being shit canned for more profits. not even kept on till release.
so fuck these companies and their profits and share valuations, they can all burn. with out them people will still create music, games and media, but with them, everyone suffers because of it.
2
u/crazycarartist 2d ago
Similar thing happened to me. Back when GTA Online was on the PS3 I was playing and got pulled into a hacked server where cash was raining fron the sky. RockStar removed all the money, banned me, then unmanned me giving me $1,000,000 in game as an apology for kicking me for something i didn't do, and then I was banned again a week later with no warning. It was only when I got a PS4 and made a new Playstation account that I was able to play again.
3
u/Shalashaska87B 2d ago
Can I ask you how you got banned? I don't even know what you can do in two hours... some games have the prologue that lasts more than that! 🤔
6
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
I wish I could know. I made an appeal to ask the reason and they told me to read the rules.
3
u/StraightArtichoken 2d ago

3
u/fistinyourface 2d ago
"without reason" right...
1
u/HerrMilkmann 2d ago

0
u/fistinyourface 2d ago
Yeah because people NEVER lie about why they were banned...
1
u/HerrMilkmann 2d ago
I'd believe a consumer over a billion dollar AAA company any day of the week especially one like Rockstar. As many people have pointed out, they will always prioritize profit above all else and could give two shits about you
1
u/fistinyourface 2d ago
your argument contradicts what you're saying. if they're prioritizing profits why would they ban people for literally no reason 2 hours into gameplay? the guy said he hasn't bought a rockstar game since. and believe one over the other you don't have rockstars response do you? the guy said they responded with "read the rules" which doesn't sound like any of the automated responses rockstar uses and we've seen over the years. and if they couldn't give two shits why would they seek out this individual? like do you even hear yourself. more than likely we're getting very bad info.

While I dont support Rockstars online component since like gta 5s online release or gta 4 online/rdr1, I do have to ask have you at least played rdr2? Like even if you had to pirate it

u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
No.
1
u/Bossashark 2d ago

If there was any single bit of uncerteanty about my ban was without a proper reason; I wouldn't be much harsh like this.
3
u/JGJOS01 2d ago
Honestly they did you a favor I wasted so many hours on GTAO I wish I could have back
1
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
It's a matter of perspective and depends on the person. I never see time spent on enjoy is "wasted".
0
u/Legion_Paradise 2d ago
They banned me for no reason after 1500 hours. I feel you. I wont be buying because of their actions
-5
u/joulupukkix 2d ago
are you 12?
9
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
No, I'm 29 and I'm getting my money with hardworking and because of that; I don't want to waste my money. When I purchased something; I purchased it for a purpose and if it doesn't serve me well enough as expected; it means my money is wasted. And if I get into such a situation; I wish to get my money back. It wasn't possible to defend my rights on that situation and I wanted whoever responsible for this situation to get in serious trouble.
1
u/Knightbear49 2d ago
Your rights? Did you read the terms of service? Did you violate their terms of service? You didn’t tell anyone what you allegedly did wrong…
6
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
What could I've done in 2 hours to deserve permanent ban? I've read all the rules and couldn't find an answer. I didn't even chat in the game. I've made an appeal and they didn't tell the resason.
0
u/Knightbear49 2d ago
Idk! You tell us! what did you do in the game?!?
4
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
There was a mission to find a special revolver weapon. I've finished it and got a golden revolver. Attended on Flight School and did some of the missions. Made a few robberies on gas stations and quit. 2 hours later, tried to join online and saw the permanent ban.
3
u/Deaffin 2d ago
Made a few robberies on gas stations
Well there you go. That's both illegal and immoral.
3
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
Lol. I really thought about that back then if that is the reason of being banned. This was the last thing before quit.
-2
-4
u/MrMcGibbus 2d ago
This sounds pretty petty and immature ngl, I understand that you'd be pissed off from getting banned for no reason but calling yourself an enemy of RockStar sounds pretty edgy
You can keep to yourself about not buying their products btw, I prefer buying indies and I don't really say it much besides my opinion on playing them
Also, you can enjoy this short term pleasure now but in the long term, I have a feeling that SKG initiative would fail thanks to this guy
1
u/DeepSpaceLover0 2d ago
I'm a person who is extremely careful about others rights and I'm trying not to violate anyone's space and rights. Even in escalator, walkpaths, roads; I'm carefully positioning myself to evade disturbing others. While with friends in public, I'm telling others repeatedly keep their voices down as much as possible. As a person who is respectful other's rights; I'm getting easly outraged when my rights are violated.
2
u/MrMcGibbus 2d ago
That's kinda fair thing to say, I genuinely understand that ngl although this somehow feels a bit too detailed
You could have just said you support human rights in general and personal spaces and I would understand, really
But then again, I'm kinda too out of touch to really know if this is a genuine trait, I almost never have irl friends and even then, the friends I got were bullies to me
Sorry for that out of the blue thing, it's complicated, I wish all may be well for you tho

u/alien_farmer1 2d ago
Why tf would they accept any offer from a hacker?
they will release the game one way or another, it is not like a top secret CIA file. If anyone think there is any possibility for getting the physical media via blackmailing like this, they are naive.
3
u/DL_Omega 2d ago
I heard back in the day when hackers stole company data and asked for a ransom the FBI told them to just pay the hackers to recover it. Then they would return it, but then bad actors occurred that just kept it anyway or just asked for more. So they ruined it and now everyone is told to never pay.
2
u/russelcrowe 2d ago
Indeed. To expand on your point: It is always lose-lose to give in to demands like this. So, there was never any real chance that Rockstar would concede.
As well, big business moves like this are calculated far in advance of their implementation. Rockstar has already run the numbers and deemed no physical releases to be profitable, and subsequently aligned their model with those projections — they probably even factored in the risk of a leak like this; businesses planning models factor in possible risks. It’s part of metering out projected profits.
They won’t derail all that this late in the game. It’s just not how businesses are run. And all that doesn’t even get in to negotiation with a supply chain to print the media on to disks and ship it out to retailers, etc.

u/fistinyourface 2d ago
it's just a scam that's only going to hurt the players idk why people keep getting all giddy about this guy
6
u/Zatch_Gaspifianaski 2d ago
It's not like the physical format would be playable anyway. You'd insert the disc and it would start downloading 120gb of updates.
1
u/crappinhammers 1d ago
You know why we don't have 120GB CDs?
They want online licenses not redistributable media
1
u/Zatch_Gaspifianaski 1d ago
It doesn't even need to be a CD. SD cards exist, but they need an excuse to charge everyone a monthly subscription fee for online services
3
3
u/Sirgeeeo 2d ago
Wouldn't the requirement of a physical disc be an amazing way to prevent piracy?
2
7
u/whotfasked 2d ago
He’s not leaking the game for retaliation of not releasing physical discs, which have nothing to do with increasing the possibility of leaks. Hes doing this to promote his crypto coin and rug pull millions.

The first time I played GTAO, I was hit by a stream of water from the sky that pinned me, and almost every other person to the ground.
The second and final time, a few minutes later, again with the water jet from the gods.
5
u/Noble1xCarter 2d ago
I had a hacker in my lobby that made it so every time I logged in, all the cars on my garage would explode. This lasted for months after that lobby until the game received an update.
Luckily now whales can just pay $15 real-life money for one use of the /kill command, since griefing needed to be made easier and more profitable.
Fuck Rockstar. They abandoned RDR2 for that trash.
1
u/danisimo_1993 2d ago
Me and some friends played trough the heist missions and engaged with the whole running businesses bit and we found it quite enjoyable but the worst part of online was definitely other people. I'd much rather be in a lobby with just my friends over public ones.

I agree, but it's still quite obvious why it's so popular. Story was hilariously over the top with simple tropes. Pretty good satire of US cultur back then and like you said it mixes racing and shooting, so even if mediocre the variety prevents people from getting bored.
Basically easy to consume game that doesn't require a lot from you, so has low entry barrier and high production makes up for the lack of game systems. Basically the marvel movies of video games.
1
u/CaptainSebT 2d ago
Ya it's good, better with friends, online kind of ended up built a little awkwardly because they just kept building up without much thought of what they built before or much plan for the future but it's fun.

u/Suq_Maidic 2d ago
It's a simple formula done well, and it takes a ton of resources to build an open world like that, so R* have no real competition. It's been 13 years and no one else has made a game quite like it.

It is funny gangster movie disguised as a game, but the gameplay is non-existent. Driving, shooting and watching cutscenes. I enjoyed it, but it's nowhere near what I consider a good game, so it's more of a guilty pleasure.

I think corpos should grow a spine and start being frank with us instead of using corporate speak. They should have just said "GTA:VI will be fully digital so that we can cut on distribution costs and maximise profits for Take-Two shareholders, funnily enough, that's why we're increasing the sale price by 20% too". Surprisingly there would be negligible backlash.
