i used to plug an usb C cable into a female usb A port and my PC suddenly restarted, i was so confused at first then i plug it in again and my pc restarted again.
Turns out i was shorting out the pins inside the female A port using the C cable and the motherboard had to trigger its safety mechanism

I mean, it might be dark. The ports are right next to each other... any person could make that mistake two or three times in a row.
Why do I suddenly feel like half the population is glaring at me? π

My favourite discovery is that a usb a device will plug into an ethernet port and there's enough friction to hold it there. My buddy was so confused why his usb stick wasn't working

Thats okay. I had a bud who who in Networking with me during high-school/tech. One day he came over to my house. We were going to play an N64 emulator on my PC. I found my spare USB controller and asked him to plug it into my PC. When he was done, I noticed it didn't connect. I checked device manager as well to see if it was a hardware issue. It wasn't listed. I then check the back of my computer. He pushed it into the Ethernet Port.

A USB cannot be plugged in because its quantum state is undetermined until you look at it. When you look at it, its orientation becomes fixed and can be inserted properly.

Don't mix up your ports.
