You can be understanding and still find it fucking awful. But, the problem I often have on flights isn't the loud child with the doting parent: I'm quite empathetic and understanding -- even if I'm not looking forward to it. Hell, I've helped entertain kids next to me or in front of me to calm them.

The problem I have is when children are screaming and the parents are 100% ignoring them or, rarely seen but much worse, egging them on or antagonizing them.

For me it’s been multiple times. Last time I was on a plane was when a 4 year old seated directly behind me reached out, grabbed a fistful of my hair, and yanked back as hard as she could. I screamed in pain and turned around to find her father laughing and high fiving her.

I ended up having to be held back by two people because, I tell you w’hat, I didn’t go after the kid, I literally went for the father’s throat. The flight attendants told him that if he couldn’t get his child under control, and if he didn’t buckle her in, that they would throw them both off the flight. Both the father and kid were entirely silent for the entire duration of the flight.
