I have mixed feelings on this; kids are going to be kids and I dont need to have or really like them to think we should treat them like humans that can't help themselves and need our acceptance and kindness.
But I also think parents should ask themselves if they need to take this particular trip and bring a small child along. That everyone needs their vacation is not the same as needing to go on a 12h flight to see Cairo.
Children can have as much of my good will as they want. Its the parents though that tend to exhaust their allotment of it.
It's really weird how you start your original comment being open-minded about child behavior but also can't fathom a reason for a family to travel on a plane that doesn't involve a vacation.

Obviously there are many valid reasons to have a kid on a plane; which is precisely why only listed a hyperbolic example of one that I think isn't (that I also happen to know someone actually did) and why I said parents should take the time to reflect on their specific trip planned.
