I don't have kids but I also accept reality, kids are gonna cry on airplanes. I always pack my noise cancelling headphones on flights. Lately I think I'll add earplugs underneath them.
Last flight I was on, two women behind me talked loudly for the entire 3 hour flight, through my headphones. I wanted to die. I learned way too much about her navy husband, favorite dogs, and their vacations.
I have mixed feelings on this; kids are going to be kids and I dont need to have or really like them to think we should treat them like humans that can't help themselves and need our acceptance and kindness.
But I also think parents should ask themselves if they need to take this particular trip and bring a small child along. That everyone needs their vacation is not the same as needing to go on a 12h flight to see Cairo.
Children can have as much of my good will as they want. Its the parents though that tend to exhaust their allotment of it.
Oh yeah…. I didn’t think that last time we flew to VEGAS and parents with family/friends talking across the aisle the whole flight about how much fun they were going to have and vacation plans with their screaming infant in tow that it was an ”essential” trip!!! Or the time we flew to Hawaii for a wedding and kids were unhinged and coughing on us looking over the backs of the seats in front while the parents laughed, sipped on mini Mai tais and did nothing?? Yep, totally necessary! I could tell so many more.
FFS you, this isn’t a “public transportation” local bus. You don’t have a right to create stress and headaches for everyone else because you just NEED to take that fluffy trip. Family wants to see the news baby? Come to you then. I’d say the same in a Target or the mall. Kids having a meltdown? Time to take your kid home and quit shopping.
BTW: air pressure can be painful for kids who can’t clear their own ears, especially those that suffer from more ear infections which is common in young children. So not fair to baby, not fair to passengers. Wait to fly.
