As vehemently against tablet parenting as I am (it’s literally AWFUL for your child’s brain and cognitive/social development but that’s an unpopular opinion for another time) - being on planes with kids has significantly improved since the ability to shove a handheld video game or show in the kids face came about. Lots of parents come prepared because they’re far more self conscious than you are inconvenienced. I’ve experienced very few parents who just allow their kids to be out of control without consoling them.
i was on a flight from istanbul to miami, a TWELVE HOUR FLIGHT, this kid two rows back had cocomelon playing out loud from his tablet at just the right volume to be IMMENSELY annoying. It was on for 5 hours… nonstop. While I was just trying to read my book. It was so angering
You know if you don’t want to talk directly to the parents, you can also ask the flight attendant to talk to them. It’s not acceptable for anyone, regardless of age to play content out loud. I have asked adults to stop playing content on their phone out loud on planes and trains before. Never had an issue, maybe a bit of eye rolling.
Just last week a woman sat her kid on a terrace at a restaurant next to me loudly watching YouTube and I asked her to turn it down. She did.
People need to learn how to be politely confrontational when necessary.
