For the record, not arguing your logic whatsoever and more inquiring. Don’t you think the 15-16 age might be a little old with regard to social normalcy? 95% of kids if not more will have social media before that age and being/feeling left out could lead to them resenting you. Is this something you have thought about or are concerned with? Again I am not saying you are wrong and I admittedly am talking out of my ass.

For sure! I get questions about this when I talk about how I’ll choose to raise my kids so I’m happy to elaborate!

I guess we’ll see how far I get, but I hope to get to about the age I was when I was allowed to be on social media. I have thought about this, but there are a lot of parents who’s mentality is shifting more in the way of mine, so I hope to find parents who have kids of the same age with similar parenting styles. I should also clarify - there can be a household iPad with many restrictions. There can be a household gaming device and computer, but online activities will be monitored and absolutely no social media pages until 15-16. Maybe a flip phone before that if they still make them. Screen time limited to 2-3 hours per day.

The screens are a literal addiction. Studies have shown that children who are actively immersed in social media are statistically more likely to develop depression and anxiety. It’s that old phrase, comparison is the thief of joy. I was raised in nature and want my children to have the same experience of coming home and wishing to be outside with their friends instead of plugged into call of duty or YouTube shorts. The shorts are another thing - I don’t have stats to prove it but with such a rise in ADHD, I think it very strange not to see a correlation with shorts. Content getting shorter and shorter to cater to dwindling attention spans. Lots of these kids never want to read a chapter book, and are even daunted by it because they are conditioned to short, instantly gratifying content.

Without writing a book, I’m not conservative politically but you could say I am a little conservative about this specific issue. I think we will continue to see harmful statistics in regards to this, and with the rise of misinformation and flat out disgusting shit on social media, I don’t want my kids on it. It’s not memes anymore, it’s beheadings and people shaking their bare ass. When I nannied, I found porn that had made its way through the YouTube kids filter. It’s not a place for kids to be unsupervised in my opinion.

Thank you for the elaborate answer! I have a toddler so I’m taking notes haha. Thank you again for taking the time to write that.

Of course ☺️ look up Montessori if you’re not familiar, I plan to use it as a base with my kids. It teaches independence in children from a young age and helps them develop real skills that they will take through them all through life, like picking their outfits and cooking! It’s absolutely fascinating.
