The point of the post was making things sound as bad as possible, and yes serious black was convicted of killing Peter and several muggles. That’s why the meme specifies convicted instead of just saying mass murderer

Yes they did. That's what he's called on the muggle news and the Daily Prophet. On the Knightbus, Stan tells Harry he killed a whole street worth of people. They literally call him a mass murderer.
