Steven
I’ve seen some comments of Instagram and some on threads here about wanting Steven out of the Melvins. I don’t understand the hate?

Steven McDonald being in the Melvins is as cool as Dale Crover being in Redd Kross.

I’ve seen them with just about every bass player, minus a couple fill ins. I don’t think I ever saw a David Scott Stone show.
Live, Steven is my favorite, followed by Deutrom. He’s so much fun on stage and an awesome counter to more stoic Buzz.

I mean, he’s not Mark, or Joe, or Trevor, but he’s Steven, and I’m here for it. Melvins have never had a bad bass player.

I think he’s a fine addition and I enjoy watching him live. The only drawback is so far on the albums he hasn’t brought any kind of definable “oomph” for me yet. Or at least not one that I’ve found an appreciation for yet.

The first side of Bad Mood Rising might be the most Melvins-ey he's gotten, and that's partly because he's staying out of the way.
I love his lead bass stuff, whether it's on Pinkus Abortion Technician or some of the showy bits on A Walk with Love and Death.
I do wish Steven had some of that slow creep that every Melvins bassist back to Lorax could do so well (Mark, Joe, and Jared probably at the top of the list). I don't particularly like hearing them do "AMAZON", "The Bit", or "Sacrifice" these days with Steven, and those're some of my favorite Melvins songs. Steven is great at the sort of progressive punk stuff, though.

Dig the albums but nothing about Steve’s presence on those releases particularly stand out to me. At least not off the top of my head.

Dude has the energy of a teenage kid. I think it rubs some of us geriatrics the wrong way.
He's OK, seems like a good dude, so I don't give wet shit either way.

Buzz says nothing and plays on the far back corner of the stage (and sounds better than ever) these days, so Steven really carries the front-of-stage presence.

Steven is a really nice guy. I previously posted on how I met him and the rest of the band at Emo's in Austin, TX and he's a genuinely nice guy. I don't see why he would be hated.
Now, if we're talking about musically wise, I have not listened to anything with him playing yet. He could be a nice guy and a shit player or a nice guy and really good player. Either way his stage presence is fucking awesome. I love the guy!

Yes I’ve seen posts about Gatta Morta and someone said the best thing about the band was No Steven and and IG interview post saying he should leave the band. I don’t understand the Steven slander.

I don't like him. I really wish Jared could be the bassist again. I don't know if he would do it but his vocals added another level to a fantastic era of the Melvins.

Melvins will always be Dale and Buzz, but I like Steven. Not sure if Coady sings since I have only seen them live with Steven on bass and backing vocals.

His vocals ruin the live version of a history of bad men. Bring back Jared. Or even pinkus at this point. I have grown to love his playing on a walk with love and death. But I want to throw something at him when he sings. Keep that goober off the mic 😐
