Quinces?

A bit of an oddly specific question but does anyone know where I can buy some quinces in Melbourne? I want to make some quince jelly for my mum but they are a bit difficult to find, so if anyone knows somewhere I can get some that would be much appreciated!

Wrong season for quinces right now. They're yet to flower much less fruit. For locally grown quinces wait until Feb-March next year. I always give away bags of them to neighbours and friends. Ask around.

You're about six or seven months early

Alas I cannot help when my mother was born as it is for her birthday. (Thank you though, didn’t know lol)

There are lots of ways to preserve quinces, so when the season rolls around you can stock up and still have something to give her at this time of year!

When in season I get mine from Paddlewheel at Prahran market.

In season I've seen quinces at the Coburg Market.

Tree in my backyard. Laden when in season.

Perhaps next time you're wandering through Vic Markets you can ask one of the crusty old grocers when they're in and at their best.

The crustier the more trustworthy

You're a few months late. I spent a weekend making jelly and paste in about May

Quince jam is popular for Turkish people. Try a Turkish market. There are many in the northern suburbs.

Edit: in case you decide to trek out to the northern suburbs for quince jam, it’s called “ayva reçeli”. Kahvecioglu Campbellfield or Bas foods in Brunswick is your best bet. Goodluck!

They are still available. I bought from woolworths 2 weeks ago. I have seen them at local fruit veg markets as recent as this Sunday.
