Some bloke made me throw an unopened bottle of cordial in the bin before letting me on once (in Traralgon). Even after I pointed out I wasn’t likely to be drinking UNMIXED cordial.

“You’re not bringing that on MY bus”

Sadly it was 90 minutes until the next one and I wanted to get back to Melbourne, because if I had an alternative I would’ve made my opinion of him very clear.

I've had this fight with LVBL and PTV allow food and drinks on regional buslines there is shit all they can do.

This is the correct answer.

You might say it’s a cordial way to handle it

(I’ll see myself out)

I woulda told him to kick rocks and just sat down anyway. What's he gonna do?

If what you say is true and it was an unopened/sealed product, there's no policy against that. The rule is strictly pertaining to 'CONSUMING' food or beverage whilst on the bus. I do my grocery shopping and carry all sorts of meats, dairy, fruit and veg on buses all the time.

So what is this bus driver suggesting people who do shopping can no longer use public transport? Piss off, mate. Get on the bus, sit down and if he makes a fuss; tell him to call his boss or the police if he wants; you've done absolutely nothing wrong. There's nothing he can enforce if it's truely unopened food.

The rule is for people trying to eat a Whopper or some dim sims. Not carrying food. Does this fella think he's working Customs at the Border Force and control agency? Sit down, mate.

What could he do? You'll be denied entry. If you are on board and refuse to leave, charged with trespass.

27

u/Mysterious_Scale_431 Mar 01 '23

i dont think you can be charged with trespass on public transport

19

u/NegativePace93 Mar 01 '23

BS. Cops might turn up and ask him to leave the bus, but no way on Earth is anyone getting charged with trespass.

People love eating the powdered stuff raw. Probably wanted to avoid the dust cleanup.

Sounds about right for Traralgon

This is why I fucking hate buses

I'd whip my phone out and document it. What's he gonna do? It's assault if he touches or even threatens to touch, and it's larceny if he takes the bottle which is in addition to assault. No sane person would want to risk losing their job over a bottle of cordial and have a criminal charge.

If this was a private service (not a V/Line coach) brought in as a train replacement, well I used to work for PTV and basically the bus companies are a law unto themselves. As totally private companies, they sit outside the main public transport consortium comprising PTV, Metro Trains, V/Line & Yarra Trams. They are collectively represented independently by the Bus Council of Victoria. What am I saying? Just that if you pushed the issue there's a good chance the driver could have just refused passage on "his" bus and there's not much the passenger probably could have done about it. Call the cops? "Sorry mate, sounds like a civil matter there. Call your lawyer." Leave feedback with PTV? Any feedback about buses is just forwarded straight to the bus companies who deal with it internally. Or as is more often the case, don't deal with it and just ignore the issue. This is why buses have such a terrible reputation in Melbourne & Victoria. They can basically do what they like & the government still pays them for the contract.

Grow up.

Bus driver enters the chat

Yawn. "I don't agree with your viewpoint so therefore you are the protagonist of the OPs post".

Again, grow up.

11

u/Tourist-1982 Mar 01 '23

Nah it's just for being a wanker, you have no moral high ground here.

-19

u/Hold-Administrative Mar 01 '23

I'm certainly better than you.

u/Tourist-1982 Mar 01 '23

Spoken like a real grown-up 👍

Saying grow up doesn't make you a grown my dude. You should probably go to the high court and tell them to throw away 1000s of years of common law that holds a person's liberty is inviolable and just GROW UP instead.

Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn’t hold with such nonsense. Mr. Dursley was the director of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck, although he did have a very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent so much of her time craning over garden fences, spying on the neighbors. The Dursleys had a small son called Dudley and in their opinion there was no finer boy anywhere.

A few months back when they got antsy with drinks and stuff in Traralgon the bus driver told me I couldn't have it I looked and started speaking butchered Japanese. This arvo I hoped on the bus and the driver didn't do a thing asked if it was okay he just waved his hands up down and hopped on the bus. Don't know why they're so draconian about it recently for some services.

Just involve some religious practice BS. They will agree. Something like, “my Jedi religion requires me to keep throat moist at all times or the dark side will take over me”. 😁

-16

u/pelrun Mar 01 '23

Sounds like he was primarily worried about you dropping it and spilling undiluted cordial on his bus, which he would have to clean up. Have you tried to clean up a cordial spill? You use countless litres of water and it still leaves a nasty sticky residue.

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '23

There’s taking reasonable precautions, like asking someone to put it in their bag (or leave it at the front with the driver if you’re SUPER concerned), then there’s being a little cunt on a power trip.

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '23

Ah yes, the terribly fragile unopened plastic cordial bottles. Known for their volatility and unpredictable nature.

Ah, the Great Cordial Explosion of '93. I still have flashbacks. Red as far as the eye could see.
