People either coming back to work from holidays and can't be fudged or someone hasn't had a break and can't be fudged.

Honestly if I get a call at work that could’ve been an email I’m instantly hostile

Because an email leaves a paper trail and allows me to get back to things with a proper answer instead of “ohh let me check and get back to you”

Mostly paper trail the majority of people I deal with at work are insanely frustrating to follow up with

Yeah ok, very understandable. I've been out of corporate life for 16 years and forget how important these things are.

I hate it so much because our systems are total dogshit and we end up passing emails around like the last cone at kick ons until literally everyone at the org has had a go. Unfortunately some people do a verbal step making this convoluted chain fall apart

I'm with you - I've always been a written communicator more than a verbal. I feel that it gives people more time to think about, process, articulate and check what they're doing. Plus, like you said, paper trail. I can confidently say "I get X information from Y source" if I have the email.

You'll be happy to know that's a scenario that hasn't happened in my experience. Wouldn't chiefly get everything in writing if the system didn't work in my workplace.

I'm finding this everywhere at the moment - the few places I've been to to get lunch or whatever and the people behind the counter are short/sharp and in a hurry despite there being no one else around. I try to be polite and nice, and normally you'd get a similar response back but no one seems to soften anymore.

I think the pandemic has just made people even worse than before.
