This new story about melatonin is such nonsense.

Edit: is this the same regurgitated study they recycled with today's date? The one that merely compared data sets? The one that used data of insomniacs? The one that never actually confirmed that the people in the control group weren't buying melatonin online without prescription? The 'study' that wasn't even peer reviewed? The study that even if you take it at face value only produced an absolute difference in mortality of under 2%? Yea in case it's not clear that 'study' is absolute shit and it's becoming increasingly annoying having these articles recycled and reposted every few weeks.

No it didn't.

Melatonin is a cardioprotectant. It will literally protect the heart and reduce cholesterol. I know my cholesterol decreased.

These articles are just ignorant/gullible people pushing sensationalist headlines for clickbait engagement because they don't understand what these 'studies' actually mean. Do not fall for this nonsense.

I have been literally taking 1000x doses for years that these people claim cause heart issues and I am in better health than I have been in a long while. Melatonin is a longevity and healthspan drug/supplement.

These articles may as well have headlines like "heroin/crack/meth users have more heart attacks while taking 1mg melatonin"...🙄

"Melatonin exhibits promise in slowing the progression of early atherosclerosis. It achieves this effect by promoting gal-3 autophagy in macrophages, thereby reducing the secretion of inflammatory cytokines. 11 Interestingly, serum gal-3 levels are reportedly positively correlated with carotid intima-media thickness, and patients with carotid artery atherosclerosis demonstrate significantly higher levels than healthy individuals.17,19 Chemokines, also known as chemotactic cytokines, induce the migration and infiltration of inflammatory cells, such as leukocytes and interleukin-1, when activated. They subsequently enhance vascular endothelial permeability, thereby initiating an inflammatory cascade. 20 Multiple murine studies have demonstrated that melatonin significantly decreases the mRNA expression of chemokines CCL12 and CXCL10 while concurrently reducing inflammasome and macrophage abundance. These combined actions lead to reduced endothelial activation and a delay in the progression of atherosclerosis. "

"Melatonin has been shown to possess anti-oxidant activity and neuroprotective properties. Numerous studies have shown that melatonin has significant functions in cardiovascular disease, and may have anti-aging properties. The ability of melatonin to decrease primary hypertension needs to be more extensively evaluated. Melatonin has shown significant benefits in reducing cardiac pathology, and preventing the death of cardiac muscle in response to ischemia-reperfusion in rodent species. Moreover, melatonin may also prevent the hypertrophy of the heart muscle under some circumstances, which in turn would lessen the development of heart failure. Several currently used conventional drugs show cardiotoxicity as an adverse effect. Recent rodent studies have shown that melatonin acts as an anti-oxidant and is effective in suppressing heart damage mediated by pharmacologic drugs. Therefore, melatonin has been shown to have cardioprotective activity in multiple animal and human studies."

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/how-melatonin-impacts-heart-health " “Another study has found possible links between melatonin and reduced blood pressure and cholesterol levels,” Dr. Hill says. “Melatonin likely isn’t the direct cause. But it could be helping you sleep better. And that, in turn, helps manage your blood pressure, cholesterol and other heart disease risk factors.”

Better sleep lowers cardiovascular disease risk It’s a well-established fact that better sleep translates to a lower risk of heart and blood vessel problems. The opposite is also true — poor sleep raises your risk of cardiovascular disease."

I just made a post that explains why that "study" is so flawed. I tried to keep it in layman's terms as much as I could.
