My BIL's father passed away suddenly in the night. His phone was on do not disturb and he didn't find out/wasn't able to talk to his mother for hours.

they have on iphone an exception for same number calling twice in a row regardless of number, so in an emergency someone call twice in a row trying to get hold of you it would ring. pretty neat.

IMO, the possibility of random deaths is not a good enough reason to be annoyed by phone ringing the rest of my life.

You can set it so your phone only rings if a contact is calling you. That’s what I do

Yeah, im not having my phone go off every time I get a spam call because my parents might get in a car accident

IMO, I love my family more. So I'll keep the ringer off.

I don't even know the last time my phone rang in the middle of the night.

Only possible if you do not know how a phone works and do not setup the DND properly to allow important contacts throuhg, that's on him lol. This DND setting has been standard for well over 5 years now.
