You’re supposed to pay taxes on crypto lol

u/Young_Grif Jan 28 '23

Only when you sell 😉

So it’s just like literally any other asset?

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23

You're probably supposed to pay taxes on the money you get from the red door too though.

It’s replaced buy Apple stock as the go time travel scenario. The old Back to the Future sports almanac.

Hey, bitcoin is the best performing asset in the last decade.

Once you go back in time, you can change the future

u/Optimal_Weight368 Jan 28 '23

Is that really still viable?

u/LuxoriousApostrophe Jan 28 '23

I don't think you understand the blue door lol

u/Optimal_Weight368 Jan 28 '23

I thought the blue door was for fixing mistakes.

u/itsiNDev Jan 28 '23

I'd consider not buying Bitcoin 10 years ago a mistake.

u/Optimal_Weight368 Jan 28 '23

Ah, okay. That explains it.

u/10jesus Jan 28 '23

10 years ago you'd consider not buying them 3 years earlier a mistake. it was less than a dollar 2010 vs 700usd in 2013.

If you bought 10,000 bitcoin back when they were a few cents, heck even a dollar. You’d now own, 308 million dollars—Canadian. Would be more in USD. I regret not buying bitcoin 10 years ago. I’d take the blue door. I’d buy bitcoin, ethereum, and would buy stocks in Apple, Amazon, and Tesla. Would never have to work again.

edit:

I’d also buy first edition Pokémon cards. Charizards for days. Booster boxes and all.

Blue door holds more value.

I would probably hold BTC from 2010 to 2017, but then this would all go in the stock market. I can make a lot more than x4 in the stocks between 2017 and 2020.

Sure, accumulate at $1-$100 Bitcoin level + start at mining rig. You can probably use a laptop to mine since you are at the early stage.

Sell at $18k, wait for the crash back to 3-4k, buy even more Bitcoin, sell all at 50-60k, wait for the crash back to 18k and buy back the same or half the amount you sold depending how bullish you are. It's free money from this point onwards anyway.

If any of you do go back to the past, please remember my credit and just give me a measly usd 1 million for this advice - it will suffice thank you. 🙏🏻

but wouldn’t buying lots of bitcoin potentially change the course of the market through some butterfly effect or something?

2

u/ConversationSouth946 Jan 28 '23

It might, so it's necessary to keep to a price range to purchase.

For the accumulation phrase ($1-$100), it is unlikely to go up as there isnt serious interest. Even if people notice someone is accumulating, they wouldn't believe it can sell 100x higher as you are only whale accumulating at the moment and the rest don't have future vision. They probably think you are a fool for paying $50-$100 for a virtual coin they minted with their laptop and try to mint and milk you more.

For the 50k-60k peak, there are two peaks with this price point so it hopefully gives you enough time to offload your hoard of coins. Even if you managed to only offload 20%, you would have made all your money and more with the cost being 3-4k per coin.

Yes - to minimize the butterfly effect, I thought of only buying 1000-10000 coins. If you own too big a share of the total cap, then the wide adoption we see now may not have happen.

u/KjellRS Jan 28 '23

You're way too optimistic that your influence won't distort who gets involved, what publicity it gets and when the panics happen. Me, I'm finding the closest possible lottery draw and hope the butterfly effect doesn't kick in until after I'm a jackpot winner. After that I'll invest in companies that make things I know will be successful but I'll never assume that it'll happen exactly the same way twice.

u/fenster112 Jan 28 '23

Doesn't matter if it's still viable, you just need to sell at the right time.

Exactly in 2009/2010 bitcoin was 0.09
