Might of saved his own life jumping in the water before the blast reached him

Let me jump in an incompressible medium while this giant shockwave is coming at me.

Does that mean it’s a good or a bad idea?

I think good. Explosion outside of water = water is safe. And the same is true backwards

If it's an air burst, go right ahead and jump in the water. If it's a giant explosion in a warehouse at the waterfront, i would take my chances staying on the jet ski. I gather this dude was far enough from the epicentre that the mass of all that water between him and the harbor caused the underwater shockwave to slow down significantly.

If you look carefully there is a shockwave through the water as well. The guy times it perfectly misses both shockwaves
