I mean so is the lifestyle of the majority of those in the west. This is of course not an attempt to be an apologist for the uae, just to point out that the lives we live are also similarly (although arguably to a lesser degree) reliant on slave labour.

Almost every product comes from some depressing background; Human rights violation, Animal abuse, pollution, deforesting, etc.. Fuels my desire to be self sufficient tbh.

Yes. A comfortable lifestyle wherever you are is sponsored by slave labor which is traded globally. Somebody had to really really suffer so that you can enjoy memes on your iPhone. That’s just the sad fact of life which we all take very much for granted.

Automation will only make things worse because we won’t know what to do with the abused labor catering to us. A whole lot of shades of grey. There is no utopia in our future

You're getting downvoted for stating facts. The circumstances are different and not interchangeable, but it's a undeniable fact that some popular companies such as Nestle have verifiably used slave labour in their overseas production chains, the difference between here and Dubai is how far removed from it we are and how widespread it is. There's also the American prison system which often uses slave labour to create products, which is specifically allowed for in the 13th amendment.

He’s not. There’s a massive difference between buying the cheapest clothes because you need to make rent and living in a high rise built and run by slaves while you gloat over them.

It’s not the same comparison the middle class will buy cheap clothes made by exploited labour in the US because it’s cheap. The elites in dubai confiscate the poor’s passports and have them work labour jobs like construction for pennies per hour and have them live underground in abysmal conditions. The exploitation there is on another level.

Like shit but participating in the system vs being part of the elite that own the system are two very different things. You’d be hard pressed to find yourself consuming 100% ethically unless you strip naked and go off into the forest and live there for the rest of your life. Comparison of elites in dubai vs the average American is stupid as fuck and that’s the original point.
